Default Let's hear it for Dogs!

Due to the abundance of cat threads on this forum, I decided that our canine friends need a thread to shine. So let's tell dog stories and share dog pictures.

I have a 50 lb mutt named Abbie. She's black with shaggy hair, but short hair on her lower legs and head. She's pretty smart; she figured out how to take caps off of pop bottles, and likes to mess up our back yard. Example; my mom planted mums around our deck, and when my boyfriend was airing out the sleeping bags, Abbie pulled up one of the mums, nudged Alex with it, and dropped it at his feet. We had the tent set up, too, and unzipped it to let her check it out, and when we zipped it back up, she nosed all the way along the zipper (that she could reach), trying to get it open again. And she runs in circles in the back yard.

I'll post a pic as soon as I can find one.

So, what's your doggie do?

Although I'm a cat person, dogs are alright and I'm quite happy to do some praising for a change. There are some breeds that are just beautiful and I do love the way dogs look almost human when they sit on the floor and look at you with their beautiful chocolate brown eyes. My mother has a beautiful collie/lab cross bitch who is the sweetest, best natured dog I've ever came across. She's called Jess and we call her Jessica Lang, her ears are so floppy they look like earrings.

I love the way she will slump onto the floor and let out the biggest sigh as if she has the weight of the world on her shoulders. I also love the way she'll sit with one paw slightly bent underneath and the way she'll be falling asleep propped up against the washing machine and her head will drop suddenly which wakes her up with a dozy look on her face.

She's great to take for walks, very obedient with no formal training whatsoever. She's great to play with too, she loves the normal doggy games but also loves to find bits of sticks and just carry it in her mouth. She loves to chase the birds who always beat her of course.

She is the complete opposite to the bastard dog from hell my mother picked up from the cat and dog home for my whiny wee brother. Everyone still talks about that thing even now (he's been dead about 6 years) and how bastardly he was. I did more than my fair share of taking the fucker walks, that thing put me off having a dog for life but that's for another thread!!!

Goddammit! I, for some unknown reason, hit the post reply button, without even typing anything. So all this is an edit:

This same thing. He does 'flying' laps around the yard when he wants to show off(never does it when he's alone as far as I can tell), and has created a grass-free track.

It seems the same picture can't be attached twice- you can find a picture of my dog in this thread, that was only started 4-5 days ago.

And I forgot to mention, he sleeps with his head on the edge of the hearth, using it as a pillow. It can't be comfortable, but he does it all the time(like right now).

Hip hip HOORAY for doggies, our faithful furry family members

My 90-lb. male boxer has too many funny habits to share here, but one of my favorites which I have captured on film is what I call his "demon possession" routine... he'll be just lying there all sedate and suddenly flip onto his back and sort of writhe from side to side, fake-growling and snapping at something (invisible?!) in the air and whatnot. Then just sit back up calm as can be.

Witness the possession for yourself:

Dogs are companions. Cats are for dinner.

65 lb Golden Retriever mix. He's getting a bit old so having an infant around sometimes makes him grumpy. But he's a lovable old coot. Loves to chase the ball, anywhere and everywhere. Loves kids. Loves old people.

He knows how to open the door to our bedroom. He knows how to pick up his ball between his paws. He sleeps me to sleep at night, meaning he crawls up nex to me and puts his head on my chest while I fall asleep. After I'm out he gets down and sleeps by the door.

This is him and my young-un, watching me rebuild out deck.

I know what you mean. Our dog "rides the bicycle". He rolls over on his back and kicks his hind legs in circles while grunting and moaning. Silly dog.

Oh my word. Does he start barking in tongues?

I used to have a great dog, OddBod, who was my best mate in the world but died of old age after a grand old life.

He really was a star and I still dream about him sometimes.

Dogs are pretty cool, but I wouldn't have one now since I live on my own and go to work all day. I just think it would be cruel to leave it alone all day.

Cats are a bit different, though. I let Spot play out all day while I'm at work and she either sleeps in the shed or goes to visit one of the neighbours.

Have fun.
