Go Jobar! Somebody needs to stand up for what's right, and nobody will be able to say that you were silent when the time came to speak.

Jobar,
Congrats on being published. I'm flattered that you would include something I wrote in a letter that is very good on its own. Personally, I am getting so frustrated with the amount of ignorance, bigotry, and lies that this ruling has produced. I especially love it when people say that they will teach their kids to say under god anyway as if anyone said they could not. |

Errrrr... I must confess. I have been had.
I stated above that my friend told me all this- he was pulling my leg. He got my shoe, my pants, and left me with a scraped ass. Oh, the letter was printed- on the letters page. And there was a box, in red, on the front top center, reading "ATHEISM AND POLITICS- see letters!" No letter on the front page in red ink, though. However, I am sure it got read- because my mother called me mortified and angry. I kept my temper and told her she was free to write a letter saying that she and my Dad thought I was full of shit! |

I don't know your Mom. I'm sue she is a nice and sincere lady. However, any mother who makes a special call to a child claiming that she is mortified and angry isn't concerned about that child. She is completely locked into her own narrow, little, world. She is concerned about what people will think about her...not you. I feel sure you already know this. IMHO, if she could expend her world a little, she would have called worried about what problems you might encounter from your public statement, not how she was mortified by it. |

Jobar: I have only just seen this thread, but feel I must post to congratulate you. Have there been any specific replies to your letter?

Jobar,
Excellent letter! I know what you mean about being nervous. When my paper called me for a quote on the day of the 9th's decision, I was nervous. (I had previously written a letter to the editor in which I identified myself as an atheist.) Anyway, they never used my quote and I was both disappointed and relieved at the same time. I was pretty nervous all night and the next day until I saw that I hadn't been quoted. It’s not a good situation when you have to fear speaking up for what’s right.
