Indeed, I should have indicated, as I have in the past, that I was talking about concrete things as opposed to abstract things.

A number, such as a bank account balance, is only a short way of speaking, a verbal heuristic perhaps. If I have $738 in my checking account I can say, "seven hundred thirty-eight dollars" istead of "a dollar and a dollar and a dollar..." et al. Both carry the same amount of information.
