Well I'll just say that I'm used to the look of a circumcised penis - I guess it's more of a customary/traditional thing. I think uncircumcised penises are more animal-like but that isn't necessarily a bad thing... I mean I'm quite open-minded.

I will just point out that the current rate of circumcision in British Columibia is below six percent. Apparently most of us have decided it is just not worth it. I am glad my parents chose to not cut me, considering how handy it is for jacking off.

I have to admit I rather prefer the *action* of an uncircumcised penis.

None of this relates to the ethics of lopping off the foreskin, however. A man can always choose to have the surgery when he's an adult, if he prefers the look.

tronvillain, in Australia it's about the same, probably lower. Used to be much higher. I grew up in the UK where it was never popular. It's very much an American thing that caught on in the English-speaking world and then died down. (I'm speaking of non-religious circumcision, obviously.) Rates in America are still horrendously high.

I can list many rituals around the world done for purported health benefits or aesthetic reasons. Chinese foot binding for example. Small feet are considered beautiful according to some parts of China. So what they do is bind a girls feet tighter and tighter. Over time the bones in the foot bend and girls foot is now extremely small and "beautiful".

I agree as a female that the look is favorable to me....but thats just because I've been conditioned to it. I would not ever mutilate my child (if I have any boys) this way. He can choose later to do it himself. Boys in England who were circumcised actually try to get it back (through various procedures) so they won't look odd to others! Total opposite!

There have been many law suits regarding this, even with consented, normal procedures on healthy babies.

The harvard review is the most succinct in outlining the issues against.

Think of this.....for what is now a primarily cosmetic procedure over 200 babies die as a result (per year in the US). Many more are disfigured. A few were turned into girls by idiot doctors(not recently I'm glad to say). It's a small percentage, but COMPLETELY avoidable.
An adult can take this risk but certainly not a 1 day (or 8 if your jewish) baby should ever be forced to take the risk.

One more thing.....43 states still fund this procedure through medicaid. Tax dollars actually pay for this! In fact, the state of Utah dropped funding in their phys therapy and audiology dept. and kept circumcision...until someone protested.

What level of risk is low enough that a man would risk losing his penis? or his son's?
