All right let's talk about the Historical Jesus. One of the assertions made intially was the fact that Jesus was crucified by Pilate sometimes in the 30's. Under what charges and circumstances was Jesus tried and convicted?</strong>
If you would like to start a thread on this issue as Family Man has suggested, I would be interested in participating. My preliminary answer is that he was crucified for causing a disturbance in the Temple and/or getting the crowds riled up during a major feast. This was interpreted as a potential act of insurrection and was promptly dealt with before it went to far. I think it is difficult to be certain since the evidence we have is insufficient for any definite conclusions.

Disregarding the question of authorship, it would make logical sense for the disciples to be the prime source of information when writing the gospels, would it not? Outside of "the man" himself where else would you find basic, detailed information about Jesus and his ministry other than his disciples?

</strong>
And the most basic , detailed information about L. Ron Hubbard is to be got from the Church of Scientology. Who else is in a better position to know?

Fact. Even Paul complains about people preaching false Jesuses. So we know the early Christians made up stuff.

Yes, but as has been stated by other users on this board, the disciples ascribed these claims of divinity and messiahship to Jesus. Therefore they are intentionally fabricating not falsely beleving or being deluded. And again the question: why would a set of individuals (the disciples) who knowingly and willfully instigated a set of incorrect inventions about a man suffer endless persecution and eventual death if they KNEW it was a lie?[/QB]
'Endless persecution and eventual death'. Evidence please.

Just to give a scenario, suppose Jesus had said that the Temple and Israel would be destroyed if Israel did not change its ways. Suppose his disciples believed that. Would they not tell a few white lies to save Israel from destruction?

You can make your arguments; let me make mine.
Sorry, my comment was not meant to critize nor to interrupt anything that was going on.
