Feck! well... I'm mean yay! no! I mean FECK!... no... wait.... damn....
Well there's two sides to it here. If they manage to make it as well as the original Father Ted, then I am all for it, but I doubt they'd be able to. Also just imagine how pissed off the overly religious people in this country would be. I remember somebody on this foru,m reccommending a while ago they make a version of "Father Ted" based on a group of baptist preachers. |

"Catjerome has a happy face" ... not!
![]() There's no way that they could produce a successful American version. Standard American comedy is for the most part too concerned about appealing to every denominator and blandly avoiding anything offensive (generalizing about sitcoms here). They could never do anything like the Chinese episode, for example. Plus, don't people ever learn from past mistakes? Royal Payne, (American) Men Behaving Badly ... American rips of British shows are destined to be utter poo. They've been talking about making an American version of The Office. I don't even want to imagine what kind of lame Dilbert-esque imitation that would be. |

Drink! Feck!
I too find it very hard to imagine a remake being better than the original. It's such a shame the actor who played FT passed away. (I've spaced his name) I guess God killed him for blasphemy! ![]() I miss him tremendously and Jeremy Britt, the best Sherlock Holmes ever. |

Feck. I was annoyed enough about the remake of The In-Laws. There is no need to remake something that is perfect in the first place. I can't even imagine anyone besides Dermot Morgan, Ardal O'Hanlon and Frank Kelly in those parts. It would just be wrong. Hopefully, like the American AbFab, it will never happen.

All I can say is, I watch Ground Force, Changing Rooms, etc, and I've seen Trading Spaces, an American version of CR, and I think it sucks.
In fact, any of the American remakes I've seen of their British counterparts suck, so I am skeptical about an American remake of FT. |

I love Father Ted. That show is hysterical. I doubt the American version could ever come close. They'd have to clean it up too much.

There's just no way it'll be even a tenth as good as the original.
Besides, what's the point of a remake? Don't americans understand plain English? Shai-Hulud |

Well they're making an American version of Coupling. From what I've seen on the commercials so far its a direct copy. I'm sure they'll tone it down which sucks. Its the off the wall antics that make it so great. How can you have Coupling without talk of Porn Buddies or all the other off the wall things that Jeff comes up with. It will never work. I can't wait to see how fast it bombs. American's are just so uncreative.
