Default How much memory is there in PM box?

Hi!

I have some nice correspondence going on in PM's. Usually, I like to keep two or three back/forth letters until I copy-paste the vital parts into a Word document.

Sometimes, however, when I have two or three "chats" going on at once and I get too busy to clear out the mailbox, I get an e-mail saying "so-and-so just tried to send you a private message, but your mailbox is full."

I understand why this is happening. My question is:

Is there a notification box or memory-pie-chart or some such thing which I could check from time to time before I run out of memory?

Or is there some rule-of-thumb, number of PM's, number of lines, or something which would help me gauge when I'm getting close to the full-line?

Thanks in advance for checking this out.

Hi Giorgia:

I believe the limit is 60 and both outgoing and incoming pm's are counted to determine the total.

Hi Giorgia,

The limit is 70 messages. This includes all messages in your inbox and your sent messages box.

The only other limitation is 5000 characters per message.

At the bottom of the main page it gives you the message: "(You have X unread messages and XX total messages in all your folders.)"

When that total starts to get close to 70 I would start purging.

Ah! That would explain it. Kinda.

Only, I seem to have a teensy problem:

Quote:
diana - You have 0 new message(s) since your last visit.
(You have 0 unread messages and 57 total messages in all your folders.)
This would be why I keep getting the "message box full" message myself. Only problem is, I have one (1) message in my inbox, my sent box is empty, and I've even blown away all my message tracking.

Still, for reasons defying my comprehension, I have "57" messages in my folders. But I can't find any more messages to delete.

What the...???

Is this some weird holdover from the BB upgrade? But my inbox only had 3 messages in it then, anyway. I don't get it....

Diana,

Try changing your view inside the PM page to "show all posts from the beginning".

My guess is that you are only looking at the last 20 days.

Default how many days back?

Diana, Hi!

Thanks for asking my next question and getting it answered ...

I thought "old" PM's just "aged out of existance" -- it never occurred to me to expand the time-limit for more than 20 days to find them.

Now I understand why my box was getting full: there were all those old messages hiding just out of sight!

Welcome!

I, also, seem to have collected a BOB (big ol' buttload) of PMs that I hadn't stopped to think what had happened to them.

Livin' and learnin'
