I think that is a yes, with the awareness that it would be virtually impossible for a reasonable independent body to determine that they are capable of giving informed consent. In other words, "Yes, but it would require a totally abnormal child" or something to that effect.

If she is truly mature enough to give informed consent I would have no problem with it. It would take a *VERY* unusual 6 year old, though. I doubt such individuals exist outside TV. (Think Doogie Howser.)

Due to differences in physical size, I wouldn't object to the lowest licensable age being, say, 12, or come with the onset of sexual maturity (require a physical as part of the certification process). Surely you could agree to that too; to limit sexual reproduction to a completely arbitrary number is very anti-family.
I don't see any need for such limits. Understanding sex would certainly mean understanding the physical limits imposed by being small, such people would either have a very small partner or do things other than penetration.

For such to actually happen, though, would be unlikely at best.

I once had my 18-year-old (I was 29) girlfriend over my place. She was sleeping, and her dad called. I answered the phone, and he told me that he wanted to speak to her. I said, sorry she's sleeping, he got pissed. I asked, she's not 18 correct? He said, listen you bastard.... I just told him to politely FUCK OFF, and told him if he could not call my house coherently then I was going to call the police.
Well, we broke up one week later, she said her Mormon values, disallowed us to see each other. I said, have a nice life. The end.
And they all lived happy ever after...and all that shit.

The problem in Alaska is that there are far to many young girls, (as in 13-14) which are single moms. Education would solve the problem, not reprimand. The law states that a minor must be 18 to have a relationship with somebody >18. So I obey the law! Can't wait for the fall semester at school!

yguy: You may take it however you like, but notice that's not what I actually said.

As for sexual child abuse, legislation never stopped the people inhuman enough to do it. As it is, law can only deal with this stuff after the fact - it doesn't do the victims any good.

Oh, and yguy makes me laugh

Does that mean the answer is no? If that's the case, how does my inference fail to follow from what you said?

I think that is the point everyone misses, lowering the age of consent does nothing to affect the age of first intercourse.

I'll repaet what I posted earlier, the average age of first sex is the same in Spain or Holland (legal age of consent 13 & 12) as it is in Canada (14 IIRC), UK 16 and the US (16-18 depending on the state). It is also the same in some Far Eastern countries where the legal age is from 18-21!

The average age of first sex is 14.5 for females and 15.5 for males btw.

Licensing of course would also do nothing to affect the age of first sex but at least it would enable those who are gonna do it anyway some method of doing it legally.

The only time I ever picked up a girl in a bar, it turned out to be a mature looking 14 year old with a fake ID. I was 19 (the drinking age was 19 at the time).

I found out because a little boy came into the store where I worked and said that 'Brett' (not his real name) was going to come back later and beat my ass in the parking lot for doing it with his girlfriend, 'Chrissy' (not her real name). Well, I was 19, a weightlifter, a boxer and a martial artist and I was not nearly as calm then as I am now so I was up for the fight. When this 'Brett' person came to the store he was a little boy!!!

He was more astonished that I was when he realized that I was 'Steve', the guy who had done it with his girlfriend; the guy he had challenged to a fight. The only thing I could think of was that he was some little boy who had a crush on this older woman. But he insisted she was his girlfriend so I asked him "How old is she. He said that she just turned 14. The next time I talked to her she admitted that she was indeed only 14.

It shivers my timbers that in that State I still could have been arrested in 1995 for that 'crime' (in that state you can be arrested for statutory rape 7 years after the 'victim's' 18th birthday. If that had happened, I would have been the victim.

I don't know what can be done. I think that people in the 'lower the age of consent to 5' camp are just as wrong as the 'raise it 21' camp. Should it be case by case? My case in not unusual, when I was in the Navy, a guy was arrested and hauled off our ship in handcuffs for a similar thing.

Ya know, let me digress a little and express how idiotic it is for someone to say 'raise the age of consent to 21'. It needs to be pointed out that up until the last century, if you weren't married at age 21 you were either a Nun, a teacher (they were supposed to remain chaste) or an old maid. If a woman joins the Navy or Coast Guard at age 18, she could be a 2nd Class Petty Officer by age 20. Are you (yguy) telling me that she is old enough and mature enough to be in charge of a division on a military vessel and be responsible for half a dozen other lives and millions of dollars worth of equipment, but not be responsible enough to decide whether or not she should have sex with another consenting adult?

Obviously, unless yguy can come up with some damn good reasons, his opinion on this matter is valueless. I will give him a chance to explain why he thinks the age of consent should be raised to 21, but I really doubt if he is going to convince me or anyone else.

PS: I know that everyone online can bench press 450 lbs for reps and has a black belt... I just want to add that I was a half-assed boxer and I never did get that black belt. I wasn't trying to pretend I was something I was not. However, I was (and am) stronger than hell (heh heh) although am not going to tell my best lifts.

That's not what I said either. Not everything can be broken down into a black-white syllogism.
