Unfortunately, not all hospitals do actually give the patients those drugs before a biopsy. One of the women in our online support group had the horror of watching an intern attempt a liver biopsy and miss. And then have the doctor do it. No, the poor guy wasn't drugged. The woman watching said that now they'll have to run her down before she'll allow them to do a biopsy. And it's not an isolated event. One of the other patients in the group was crying and screaming by the time they wheeled her into the recovery area. Where a nurse finally took pity and got her a painkiller. But certain institutions seem to think that a biopsy is over "so quickly" that they don't need to sedate patients or give them any analgesia before the procedure. I've had similar things happen to me with punch biopsies (no nerves in the cervix, my pearly white ass!). If I ever do need to have another biopsy done, I'll be kicking and screaming until they sedate me.

I hope it does for you, too; RA is a nasty disease, but Enbrel can often provide dramatic results. Let me know how you do.
I just took my 8th injection tonight, so I've been on it one month now. Since I had such a big crash and burn before I started it (was yanked off Arava and Azulfidine which weren't doing that great of a job to start with), it'll probably take a bit before I see any real results. I just had my right shoulder bursae injected with cortisone and lidocaine Monday morning. The lidocaine has long since worn off, and I'm really glad I have percoset. At least I ate before I went to the appointment this time, so I didn't pass out. When I had this done a little over a year ago, I was fine until I had to move my arm around after the injection. Then I went down. I just took my dose of percoset and and getting ready to crawl back into bed. And hope the cat doesn't try and knead on my shoulder again. He was really suprised when I screamed.
