I found infidels.org while debating with a Christian in some IRC room. I think it was #ChristianDebate on EFNET.

"Not even the people at infidels.org accept that [atheistic] argument"

I followed a link here from the old "Why Christians Suck" webpage, back in late 1996.

Of course, in those days the II site was nowhere near what it is now.

Came here originally through a link from Positive Atheism and did little more than browse the library and check out the news updates for the better part of a year. Occasionally I'd browse the forum, but not ofte.

At some point -- I think it was after seeing a long thread on "messages guaranteed to start a flamewar" -- I decided, ya know what, there are some interesting people and topics of discussion here. So I joined, and well, here I am a bit over a year later.

One of the better choices I've made in my life, I think . . .

Thumbs up

I had pretty much already rejected organized religion in general, and one night was bored surfing around and did a search for "atheist" or "atheism" and found this site, and I think I linked to here somehow from it. Initially, I just came here and read the items on the newswire. Then I looked at the IIDB, lurked for a week or two 'til some topic really caught my eye. So, I registered and here I am some 2300+ posts later.

II is the first message board I've posted on.

HardOCP.com is a computer hardware/overclocking enthusiast website who run a pretty big message board. One of the message boards was a 'soapbox' where people argue about pretty much everything. Many of the arguments were about religion. A few of the posters would regularly say things like 'as soandso at infidels.org says:' and list off a brilliant argument that pretty much annihilated the posters are hardocp. I just had to check out the site where all the witty comments were coming from, and I haven't gone back to hardocp since (for religion/political discussions).

I came here via Skeptic Friends Network (never registered) and a link from a Farrell Till site. I lurked for nearly two years!

Found it through talkorigins - an evolution web site. How did I find talk origins? Well these christians on my campus (Montana State University) had started this discussion board and I was arguing with people there about evolution, did a google search to find talkorigins. . . and now I"m here!

I used to argue with fundies on TheologyOnline as a pagan. One of the fundies mentioned Internet Infidels and I wandered over here to see what the fuss was about. After lurking for a little while I joined up. Soon afterwards I stopped calling myself pagan and just went with agnostic. After being active on this site for a little while I finally started calling myself an atheist. I find it kinda humorous that if it weren't for the fundie crazies at TOL, I wouldn't have found this website...so much for their "we won't hold your hand on the way to hell" schtick they use as an excuse for their inexcusably bad behavior.
