1. GOP member
2. From *sigh* Florida (had to be Florida - either that, or TExas) 3. Freshman representative. Need I say more? ![]() ------------ http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/...in543966.shtml Bringing War Dead Home From France AP) In another swipe at the French, a Florida congresswoman has proposed that the government pay for families who might want to bring home from France the remains of Americans who fought and died in the world wars. "I, along with many other Americans, do not feel that the French government appreciates the sacrifices men and women in uniform have made to defend the freedom that the French enjoy today," Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite said in introducing legislation providing financial help for the reburial of veterans from the two world wars. [...] Brown-Waite, a freshman Republican, said she decided to sponsor the bill after she was approached by a constituent who said he wanted to bring home his father, who was killed in World War II and buried in France. Some 74,000 American war casualties are buried in France and Belgium, including 30,000 from World War I. The host nations, while retaining sovereignty over the burial grounds, have granted the land in perpetuity to the United States as military cemeteries. |

Fundamentalists in this country have always had a "thing" against France. They're Papist for heaven's sake. Also, they have really disgusting sexual practices, such as French kissing. Right wingers are pretty sure that the French are having too much fun.
I was in France three years ago, and at that time, the French people I met were very friendly to us, while barely hiding their distain for the Brits we were traveling with (seems the Brits have a reputation for not tipping). I was saddened by memorial after memorial for the losses of WWI. After losing that many people from a single generation, I would have thought twice about jumping into the trenches a second time too... Also...the French gave us the Enlightenment, and for that, I will personally sneer at anyone who dismisses or denigrates them. |

We've got one of those idiots here in PA too. The idiot introduced legislation boycotting French goods of some kind.
Where can I get a French flag real quick? I'd love to fly one right now. joe |

We seem to remember so vividly how we helped the French during WW II,
but forgotten how they helped us during the Revolutionary War. Without France's help then there WOULD be no US of America. Vive the French! Sojourner |

Human remains are one of those strange things that theist and skeptics hold in a special place. But, the facts show there is no difference between a cat , a dog, your refuse or your body once put in the ground.Burial rites may be a part of human hard wiring.
But, deep fried potates ? |

Perhaps the Bush Administration should fully reimburse France for all economic and military aid provided by her during the War of Independence, return the French fallen back home (assuming any remain), compensate the descendants of those fallen and rejoin the British empire as a loose collection of British colonies and thank the French for allowing the US the opportunity to exist as a nation for two centuries. Perhaps then, and maybe then, the US may gain some sort of moral leverage over France.
