no, but then again I am too chicken to ride rollercoasters. Falling that far during re-entry would be a nightmare for me.

I hop in my car everyday. Judging by the way some people drive, I'd say that's at least as dangerous as spaceflight.

1-2% ?? Is that it? Hell, I'd do it even if there were a 50% chance of catastrophic failure. But then again I never was very bright

For science I would. Of course, what the NASA shuttle mission is doing is trivial science at best (and it takes away valuable budget money from real research), so I voted no.

1-2% is actually a pretty high risk. Think about it, if driving in cars were that dangerous, no one would survive their first year of driving!
Of course, if we're only talking one trip, then I'd be comfortable with a 1-2% risk of dying. |

![]() ![]() I gave it some consideration when I was in the USAF, and there was a call for enlisted members with technical degrees (I've got a BS in Mathematics) to go up as part of a crew! I voted Hell, yes! |

I'd hop on that flight.
But I'd want to have a long night of drunken debauchery with at least ten nubile college girls just before launch...you know, just in case... |

I voted no. I voted no to the same question when asked of the class I was in during Sixth Grade, or about 2 years, (man it was still only two years?) after the Challenger disaster. Heck, the Challenger is one of the reasons why I don't fly.
I don't believe in storing potential energy. Rivers are my friend. They don't store, they just flow. Am I missing something? Perhaps. But I live on the most beautiful continent in the world, so I won't miss not going to Europe of Asia, though I wouldn't mind New Zealand. And to go into outerspace? Well, there ain't much to see. ![]() I can't handle the lack of control. Put me on a boat. I can swim. Put me in a car. I can get out of bad situations without crashing (done so twice thanks to other hapless drivers). Give me a bike, I've gone up to 45-50 mph on one down a mountain. But you can keep your 20+ thousand miles of potential energy! Reasonable? Probably not. Will I live? I probably will. Will I fly? Perhaps a tranquilizer. Go into space? I don't think I'm physically capable of it. |

I would not hesitate to take the chance.
I have been enamored with space and exploration of all kinds for as long as I can remember. |
