In Sydney, about 250,000 people marched; in Melbourne it was 150,000 and Adelaide and Brisbane about 50,000 each. The total number in Australia exceeded 500,000 people. I was laid low with the flu, so I couldn't go, unfortunately

I went to the rally in NYC. It was great. We got there a bit late, so we were on the fringes, but It was still a substantial protest.
Afterwards we (ten of us) walked around and waved our signs at people in SUVs. That was the best part. |

The anti-war rally in Melbourne was huge...an estimated 150 thousand. People from all ages and walks of life felt strongly enough to hit the streets in protest. It couldn't be put down to a "youth" or "leftist" campaign...it was ordinary Australia.
Nationwide, this was the largest public protest in Australian history...even bigger than the anti-Vietnam rallies of the early seventies. Taking in the massive numbers at peace marches around the world over the weekend, I actually felt a rare warm glow for humanity... |

I can't resist asking:How did John Howard react to all those Aussies marching against war?
(My impression has been that he has been trying to compete with Blair for the title of Bush's Most Devoted Poodle ) |
