Aside from having in the past posting a link to Unscom's Debriefing Hussein Kamel PDFS Anyone remember all this?

http://www.middle-east-online.com/english/?id=5849 From Germany:
The German inspector, Peter Franck, was part of the UN weapons inspection team in Iraq from December last year until shortly before the US-led invasion in March.
He told Der Spiegel that US Secretary of State Colin Powell did not present truthful evidence to the UN Security Council in a famous February 5 speech.
It was "all a big bluff," Franck said.
"Basically, it was all a show for the American public.
He said Powell used satellite pictures to try to show that decontamination trucks in front of an ammunition bunker were proof that Iraq was experimenting with chemical weapons there.
However, an earlier visit by UN inspectors had already determined that the trucks were firefighting vehicles.
"What Powell said simply wasn't true," Franck told the magazine.
http://jogin.com/blog/archives/000223.php From Newsweek:
Newsweek's John Barry recently revealed that Kamel has said a whole lot more. John Barry acquired an UNSCOM/IAEA transcript of Kamel being interviewed by Rolf Ekeus (then executive chairman of UNSCOM), Maurizio Zifferero (deputy director of the IAEA and head of the inspections team in Iraq) and Nikita Smidovich (Russian diplomat who led UNSCOM's ballistic missile team and former Deputy Director for Operations of UNSCOM).

This transcript reveals that the otherwise trustworthy Hussein Kamel said that all weapons: biological, chemical, missile and nuclear, were destroyed in 1991 under his supervision. Kamel explained that the weapons were destroyed secretly, in order to hide their existence from inspectors, in the hopes of someday resuming production after inspections had finished.

Sorry don't still have link to PDF.

And the US "investigators" of Saddam's WMD programs were briefing folks in DC, asserting:
Quote:
"I think we are making solid progress," he said. "It is preliminary. We're not at the final stage of understanding fully Iraq's WMD program, nor have we found WMD weapons.

"It's going to take time. The Iraqis had over two decades to develop these weapons, and hiding them was an essential part of their program."

Kay said Iraqis have been showing investigators how WMD programs were concealed.

"The active deception program is truly amazing once you get inside of it," he said. "We have people who participated in deceiving U.N. inspectors now telling us how they did it."
Does anybody feel a "set-up" coming down here?

This is a little off-topic, but did anyone else watch the Senate hearings starring Paul Wolfowitz on CSPAN Tues? They ripped him a new asshole. Three new assholes. The harshest critcism came from Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island, and he's a Republican! At one point, Chafee basically said, "You guys can't seem to get your story straight, could you please tell me what the hell the point of this war was?" Wolfy of course just reiterated the WMD and terrorism lies. When Chafee demanded evidence, Wolfy cited Powel's UN speech!

I watched an interview with the Under Seceratary of Defense (sorry I can't remember his name), who basically said that they would welcome international review of their "evidence", but not until it was all "assembled" (as this guy put it).

I can fully imagine something happening in the next couple of weeks, something that would be termed the "smoking gun". I think it will be the capture of SH, while they sort of hope this WMD thing, along with the 16 words and all the other controversy, will just go away.

There is, slowly but surely, a growing movement of people in D.C. who are starting to get pissed. If this continues, and Dean, Kery, or whomever, can use it to easily get elected. There was some recent rumors of Gore's friends trying to talk him into running. I hope he does, because he would be our best chance of getting shrub out of there. My point is, if the next administration is (cross fingers) a Democrat, we may see some more in depth investigations. I think, if that is done, we may really get to see some fucked up shit. We may see Ashcroft, Cheney, Wolfowitz, or any of the others (Rumsfield, et al) getting subponead, and maybe even charged with something.

<offtopic>Actually, Genghis Khan was Mongolian.</offtopic>

I doubt there will be any WMD found, but even if they are found (fat chance), it will be a long while, and Americans (hopefully) will realize that there never was an "immediate" threat. :banghead:

The whole WMD debacle really simplifies itself down to the fact that the administration wanted us to believe that not only did Iraq have them, but they were producing them now! There has been no evidence offered to suggest that any WMD production had been done since we gave Hussein these things in the first place.

And, although, off-topic, those Hussein messages are probably not from Hussein but from the Pentagon in an attempt to flush Hussein out, to make him expose himself. I don't think Hussein is stupid enough to think that Iraqi's would listen to him.

Indeed. Actually, its even worse: the administration told us that they not only had them, but that we knew where they were thanks to sattellite photos. In my mind, even if we find them now the administration has lied.
