Martin Buber,

For the sake of fairness, I feel I need to say the following:

They are not really any more closed-minded than some people of many other persuasions are here, though I will not disagree that their posts can often be little more than derisive and terse dismissals and slogans, and do more to illuminate their prejudices than to uncover any truths. Be that as it may, I've seen much, much worse than them.

Anyway, I know I can't make any progress by trading insults with them because some people deal in that currency much too exclusively to be of any value to me in the end. Is it going to lead anywhere to get drawn too far into personal battles with them, when a reasoned response should show clearly enough the contrast between your thought process and theirs to a third party with at least a little common sense?

I will give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that by "Islam" you mean militant Islamists, and not Islam as a whole...

A final solution.

Martin Buber
No, that's not the case. Just because I support the war doesn't mean I've been hypnotized by Fox News and lost my critical faculties.
You are 100% correct in your assertion that we can learn from each other and that the person who will shout down another in an attempt to prove a point is indeed full of shit.
But it works both ways...

Oh please. Don't even start with that shit. I will not refer to it as anything else because it is SHIT. Take your cowardly Nazi genocide implications and shove 'em back up where they come from. You might find your head there too.

Have I insulted you? Have I been derisive or mean spirited towards you? Is someone insulting you because they disagree with you? Since you're so insightful, please, "illuminate my prejudices".

How much more insulting can one get than what I've quoted above? Disagree with me all you wish, but at least have the character to respond to me .

Exactly why should I "bite my tongue"? They obviously have not read links to which they've been refered. Since I fully intend to write them off as serious posters, why not get my ya yas out?

Of course your entitled to your patronization but as a layman not cable of delveing deeply in to thoughts, I'll continue to ignore that.

Whoa. Hit a little too close to home, did I...?

I could match you insult for insult, but that would make me too much like you.

Anyway, back on topic...

So, I gather that you do consider Islam as a whole to pose A Clear And Present Danger To Civilization As We Know It?

A simple yes or no is more than adequate, thankyouverymuch...

<walks off thinking "Yeesh, what a grouch...">

Martin,

Please do not "bite your tongue" on account of me. And if they show clear evidence of not taking the time to study the links, I agree they do not deserve much consideration.

I consider you to be a smart guy, and I will respect your choice, whatever it is. My giving these gentlemen the benefit of the doubt even though they resort to name-calling and such is my style, I guess, even though I only occasionally get the favor returned to me. Even so, at some point, I guess, enough is enough. Sometimes it makes a difference, even though mostly it doesn't. But you can do it your way.
