The question is- Why do you believe?I know you'll say "In what".Answer me this--why do you believe that you believe.Simple question require simple answer.What do you think it is (warning-2 people may know it already)

Why hide behind some stupid guessing game? This really, really gives me the impression that it's so you can sit there, feeling smug and superior, as others stumble around, trying to guess what the buggerybollocks the question is supposed to mean, before they can even venture a wager on whatever answer might be in your head.

If not, perhaps some changes are in order to prevent giving this impression in the future.

Why I believe?

Because I need to as part of the meaning of my life.

If atheism is simply a negation or disbelief in theism. Then it is really a poor substitute for theism. It is not enough that I disbelieve, I must also belive.

In the same way, that it is not enough that I die for something...I must also at the same time live for something.

And it is the best scenario, when the thing that is worth dying for is also the thing worth living for.

So when a theist ask why I don't believe? I say that is not true...well that is only partially true. I don't believe in your God, that's true enough, but I believe in something...something more concrete, something alive, something that is in the present, something you could cherish, love and support, something that will not treat you as something lower.

I believe in humanity....they may not be perfect...but for heaven sakes, I'm one of you. And there's nothing else in the world I'd rather be part of....real or imagined.

A (that id.s is looking for): Because one lets oneself believe. It is a mindful (ergo, machine) action. When we were children, we were indoctrinated to believe in something - that is not why one believes, because that is just mindless roboticism. Only later on in life, when one opens ones mind to the question can one truly believe.

Duh.

Did you have a more meaningful question, id.s, or will you just continue on with riddles? IOW, as other people have already asked, do you have a point?

BTW, keep your gold stars and attaboys to yourself. Everyone else here "gets it." They just don't believe it. Concentrate on the 'it' in the sentence. It refers to what you're peddling. We know in our open minds that belief in the IPU is complete BS.

What more can I say.When you're willing to die for what you believe then the importance of why we believe becomes paramount to our reasoning.This is the reasoning of the absurd.You have the potential to grab onto a belief structure that will justify your belief in 'good' and 'evil'.Self location is the most difficult thing a WASP can do but if you can't do it then join the chickens.
