I think it averages out at about 1 a year since I started 30 years ago. (i.e. one partner per year - not one shag!)

OK, I voted in the last category, but I reject the "poser" sobriquet.

The fact is that at various crucial times of my life I have felt the need (a childish one, but real nonetheless) to bolster my ego by putting myself about a bit. Being of a moderately charming demeanour and reaonably good-looking, I found it fairly easy to find casual sexual encounters aplenty.

Point is that it's not something I'm proud of. This need to convince oneself of one's value by indulging in what is really only a shallow demonstration of a physical attraction becomes slightly demeaning over time.

My multiplicity of sexual partners in the past is not a good reflection on my character then, and hardly the stuff to boast of or to pose about.

Not unless one is iredeemably shallow.

In my case it is more in the character of a confession than a claim.
