Now that Ive begun again to collect mp3s, Im wondering which mp3 player is the best. Ive been using Winamp for as long as I can remember and Im still pretty happy with it. I installed the 3.x version and soon realized how terrible it was and now Im using an old 2.81 version. I just saw that they have a 2.91 version available, but I am afraid to upgrade given my experience with version 3 it seems that Winamp has suddenly been acquired by AOL and all of that corporate nonsense.
Can anyone recommend a good player? |

I use Musicmatch Jukebox. I like it, although it has a lot of stuff I don't use, want or need. I have to use an old version (7.1) because the newer ones won't work on Win95. I tried WinAmp but never liked how it looked. Maybe I just needed to other skins, since I have to change skins on MusicMatch too to get it where I like it. I use the NeoSwim skin. I upgraded to the plus version years ago, so I could record songs to the puter (I think that was why) I am not sure what all if you can do if you only get the free version.

Winamp 2.9 is good. You can look it up on www.download.com and read other people's reviews if you want. Personally I am addicted to collecting skins...
![]() If I need something that uses a bare minimum of memory, or that can easily play from a directory, I use (freeware) TrayPlay, which I'm sure i also got from cnet. QCD is a good alternative to Winamp if you want to try something different. It sometimes works better for me, and there are a few plugins for it. Of course, there are a lot more for Winamp. |

I'll stick up for Winamp 3x. Been using it since it came out with no problems, grabbed the MMD3 skin (bloody awesome) and haven't looked back.
It may take a little longer than 2x to start up, but I find it manages my playlists alot faster. Not a single crash I can think of, and considering my playlists sometimes have 4000+ songs, then a couple more on top with thousands in them this is pretty good. I don't use crossfade... |

I use RealplayerOne, and Its pretty darn handy. One of my more prized posessions is my portable CD/MP3 player, but I never actually saw one advertised anywhere although there are portable MP3 player ads everywhere, why is that?

I'd stick with Winamp, an older version. 2.8 is what I use, its not bloated and works well.
