A number of reasons. RDRAM is a lot more expensive, in this instance it would have cost an extra $300. Second Intel has dropped RDRAM and its newer chip sets which support its hyperthreading technology use DDR. Lastly RDRAM is an evil company. Any technology company with more lawyers than engineers is evil in my book.

Is RDRAM the same as RAMbus? RAMbus is the only type of RAM I know to be pathetically over-priced. (Damn you early-build P4's!)

I am a big fan of graphic FPS games, but honestly, the only one I've played in the last year has been tribes2. I have played many others, and I was a huge quake3/UT player for a while. But tribes2 just has dramatically superior gameplay and is way way more fun.

I also like empire-building strategy games, mostly turn-based. I play moo2, moo3, and civ3 right now. I like warcraft, TA, etc, but I find the epic feeling and enhanced gameplay of the turn-based games holds my attention for longer. Also, I have several friends who are willing to devote a lot of time to playing these games multiplayer, which is a huge amount of fun.

I am also a RPG player, but not many have caught my attention lately. I played a MUD (MUME) for years. I've played diablo2 and baldur's gate etc, those were fun. I really liked the structured player vs player wars that MUME had...it was like tribes2 but with roleplaying and character development. I haven't liked the PvP setup of any of the current subscription based RPGs...I am hoping Star Wars Galaxies will get close.

My machine is fairly modest right now, a p3 1 gig, geforce4 4200. I am waiting for The Game that will make me upgrade.

However I also have a toshiba portege 3480 laptop. It's ultra thin, p3 600, 128 megs of ram etc. I use it to play civ3 and moo3 etc, and its portability makes it fabulous for this purpose.

When I play TFC, I usually look for games with 20-24 people playing, with Dustbowl, Warpath, Rock2, Canalzone2, and Flagrun being my favorites.
I usually play as a Pyro, Demoman, or Engineer.

Currently my game-name is "Chemnutz".
I change it every now and then, usually to "crank" name, like Heywood Jablome, or Jenny Talia, etc.

I have played Serious Sam 2 (only singler player) - just like the first - a great, gun-toting, rocket-blasting romp thru exotic locales!
Good game for just getting in there and blasting, blasting, blasting!

866 Pentium
512 Meg of Ram
GeForce 3
20 Gig hard drive
Soundblaster (of some sort)
19 inch monitor
DVD player
CD burner

I've been thinking about popping a new motherboard and processor in there to prepare for all the cool games coming up. Any advice on reputible sites or brands to get (which are also relativily inexpensive)?

The machine started with 128 Meg of ram and TnT 2 but I've been upgrading peicemeal.

MOO II??? What's MOO?

Actually, I've got quite a few games. EB was selling older games for $3 to $5 and I bought a bunch a while ago. Wing Commander III is great, but it has this thing about crashing. But I can play my Railroad Tycoon Platinum on it.

I can play Doom, Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, Duke Nukem II, and those type of games. Also got NASCAR. Its a nice DOS platform.

I also use it as the Coco 2 emulator. I just wish they'd come out with a Downland and Spidercide hack. I did own the games, so I should be able to still have them.
