I think that's the National Center for Science Education.

I'm secure in my atheism, I could give a flying flip about what anyone else believes so long as their beliefs aren't acted upon a way which would endanger the public good.

Besides, proselytizing is the aspect I loathe most about the religious, so I have no sense of urgency in making myself as similar to fundies as possible in that regard.

I like the "Ask me about my Atheism" idea. I've been tossing around this idea for months, but I've been too lazy. I saw this Buddhist guy sitting underneath the bridge from CU to The Hill (for the few Boulder Infidels out there) and he was handing out literature and such and explaining what he felt. But he didn't really push anything. He just sat there in his orange robe and waited for questions. I was considering doing the same but just putting up a sign telling people to ask me about whatever, philosophy, my beliefs, attempts to convert me...whatever.
I don't find it to be imposing or being as bad as evangelicals. I think more atheists need to do this sort of thing.

I would say "no" to proselytizing, but a big fat YES to organized and efficient (as Alonzo elaborated on) activism.

I agree that activism should be our emphasis, however evangelism could find its place "below the radar" in simple person-to-person interaction. This IMO is more efficient than some kind of organized "Freethought Ministry to the Mythologically Challenged".

Our goal should be the creation of a tolerant society with an impartial government that looks out for everyone's civil rights.
If we fail in this, I fear we will end up like the ancient Epicureans (a group btw, that evangelized but took no interest in politics).
