There was an amazing real time analysis of 19 likely Iowa caucus voters on that blew me away. The way it worked was they put all these people in a room with these little remotes. Then they played footage of Dean, Kerry, Gephrdt and Graham and the people responded up or down on a graph as they spoke in real time to the footage of the candidate. It was fascinating. There is a line graph superimposed over the image of the speaking candidate that moves up or down based on feedback from the subjects.
The candidate that faired poorest was Graham. There was an overwhelming dislike for what he was saying. The people thought that he did not know what he was talking about. They also thought that it was to extreme to be discussing impeachment of Bush. The second worst was Gephardt. The line graph actually stayed flat while he was talking. It did do a minor spike when he stated that he voted for war in Iraq because it was the right thing to do and not for any political reasons. Most people felt he was just blah, not really saying anything. Next on the list was Kerry. Most of the 19 came into the room Kerry supporters so you would think it was a tough crowd. He did miserably. Most of the crowd thought he was an arrogant know-it-all. The most telling bit was the female respondents who absolutely hated him. At one point he had the support of almost 80% of men and only about 30% of women. Not a good performance at all. Dean came out shining. Almost all the respondents at the end had a better impression of Dean than when they arrived. Two of the people who were planning to vote Kerry and Bush respecively switched to Dean. Most felt that he was genuine and addressed the issues with solutions instead of pointing fingers and passing blame. It was a very interesting segement and I encourage everyone to catch it reruns this coming weekend. |

I am a Dean supporter but i do have a few questions. For example, did they view biased video footage that would cast Dean in a more favorable light? Were the candidates responding to the same questions? What was the lighting, mood, and overall appearance of the candidates as the footage was rolling?
These are just a few that come to mind. If all footage is equal (which seems impossible), it is great to know my man can change peoples votes. ![]() |

The footage that was shown was mostly from public speaking events and campaign stops. However the bit of footage that they showed of Dean interestingly enough was from his fated Meet the Press appearance where so many in the media felt he bombed.
The footage was edited so its hard to say if the all the footage shown to the respondents were "equal" or not, but the firm carrying out the poll was a well respected professional firm headed by Frank Luntz. |

Just curious... why didn't they show Lieberman? Did he officially drop out and I missed it?
