DD - Chimps, gorillas, macaques, and humans all have the "broken" GLO gene that is needed for Vitamin C synthesis. I'm hunting around currently for which other primates have the defective gene - if someone here knows, tell me!

It's broken in orangutans as well.

Pardon me, I retract my comment about C - synthesis. Which apes still have it, by the way? as the argument would apply to them, instead of chimps.
My comments about jungle adaptation, however, still pertain. If chimps degenerated from humans and were not permitted positive mutation, they should not have been able to adapt to an environment that we are not adapted to. Dearest Vanderzygen. Can you see how talking about the actual evidence leads to meaningful debates? Perhaps you should take a leaf from GeoTheos book. |

And hey, while we're talking about the various challenges that Vanderzyden has been faced with, I'd like to state that I'm curious as to how he explains the pattern of similiarities in cytochrome C sequences, and I would certainly be interested in seeing his explanation as to why this pattern matches both patterns in the fossil record and genetic patterns...

I'm finally back, and all moved in. Denver is cool. Ok, on to the discussion: Vanderzyden: Rather than rehash all the excellent arguments made by my colleagues here at infidels, I would like to know - do you have any questions about the evidence that nightshade asked in the original post? Do you understand what we mean by "chromosome fusion," "centromere," "telomere," etc? Please let me know if you need a quick biology lesson. scigirl |

Scigirl, have you read anything in these threads to give you the idea that Vanderzyden is remotely interested in biology? Most of the posts seem to be along the lines of "I spit upon your narrow-minded science, I just want to talk philosophy."

Hi Scigirl,
Denver sucks IMHO... - kidding, I'm not a fan of the city, but the Rockies are beautiful and I hope you enjoy them. Check out the Natural History Museum... kinda' like a "dead zoo", but still interesting... get out to the West as often as you can... Cheers, Zetek |
