Default Atheist athletes?

Are there any very prominent (or not so prominent) pro- athletes who are of the free thinking ilk? We all know what a big part religion plays in the lives of alot of sports figures, but surely there must be at least a few athletes who don't buy into it? Do any of you guys know of any?

Are Pro-wrestlers considered athletes? Then you could count Jesse "The Mind" Ventura (I think). He's either an athiest or something very similiar......

Lance Armstrong is either atheist or agnostic. In the Sports Illustrated article about him winning Sportsman of the Year, he talks about religion in several passages. He basically said he has no time for people who give God credit for his recovery from cancer, or come up to him mentioning God.

celebrity atheists

Someone beat me to Lance Armstrong (who's listed as "ambiguous" on that site). I'll leave it up to you to search for others on that site.

Well, a deceased one, but quite famous:

Ted Williams was an atheist (it came out a few times in interviews, frequently enough that it got a mention in several articles of the post-death ruckus surrounding his post-mortem freezing).

Cheers,

The San Diego Atheist

Although he was very supportive of the atheist point of view (appointed atheists to important positions, passed an "Indivisible Day" proclamation that was forwarded by a local atheist group), I don't think he ever called himself an atheist and actually said something to the effect that he was a believer of some sort.

I think you're right. He may be more of a Deist than an atheist.

Kazushi Sakuraba. mixed martial arts prodigy, who lately seems to be washed up, but still... Not known here in the states, however.
