Default Hello from Kansas City!

Greetings all!

I'm Dan, and this is my second post here. I like outside of Kansas City, Missouri, but like so many others I'm part of the diaspora of Generation Xers from Buffalo, New York.

The big "so, what are you" ... if anything, a freethinking deist with Judeo-Christian leanings. Dad's Jewish, Mom's Lutheran, they've both been happily married for over 40 years, and they always encouraged me to keep an open mind towards religion. I take a rather relativistic point of view towards religion; I believe that there's many different paths to the top of the mountain. If some want to stay in the middle of one path, never wavering, it's fine as long as you don't knock others off the trail, force them to use yours, or proclaim that they're not worthy of sharing the right-of-way. Blazing off into the woods can also be a good thing. Politically, I'm liberal, but right of Noam Chomsky.

I run an urban planning related web site called Cyburbia, at http://www.cyburbia.org. Someone posted a message to the Cyburbia Forums that referred to this site, so I thought I'd take a look. I particpate on several other bulletin boards, so I won't be a frequent contributor; debating faith is not one of my strong points. However, I'll be an avid lurker, and probably speak up when it actually contributes something to a thread. Well, most of the time.

Uhhh ... hello? Anyone?

Posted in Humor, too, w/o a response.

Is this thing on?

Hello Dan. Yes, it's on. Unfortunately, I don't think very many people bother to read this particular forum.

But here's a welcome!

I must ask, why are so many GenXers leaving Buffalo? I hadn't heard this before.

Hi Dan,
Glad to see ya'. I mostly lurk here and fire off a few random posts when my dander is really up. I find that I stay pretty calm when I don't read the opinion section of the paper. Depending upon your leanings and knowledge, you may end up deciding that you prefer specific fora on this site. Since I lurk so much, I notice that there are posters here that are almost exclusive to one or two forums. I personally like to read stuff in BC&A, GRD, and EOG. I used to like a forum called "Rants, Raves, and Preachings" but it was altered into "Elsewhere." We used to get a lot of moronic drive-by preachings there and that always made me feel kind of superior in a pretty guilty way... but it was a diversion.

I hope you like it here... please explore and I'm sure you'll find something of interest.
