I just thought of this: Essentially what Gandhi did was what people (of the time) expected Jesus Christ/ the messiah to do…lead an oppressed people to independence. And with non-violence too! Which is one heck of a plus. (I wonder if Yahweh would have thought of that)

I can't understand why anyone would want to follow the horrible moral example of Jesus ("HATE YOUR FAMILY, SINNER!!!" "I HATE FIG TREES, AND YOU SHOULD TOO!!!" "MUTILATE YOURSELF FOR ME NOW, YOU GODLESS SCUMBAG!!").

Normally, being called "Christ-like" is something that I consider to be a horrible, grievous, unforgivable insult. Only one person has called me Christ-like and gotten away with it--and that is ONLY because I knew that he sincerely meant it as a compliment.

Sincerely,

Goliath

My friend, don't think about the Bible in a literal sense, in any way shape or form; that road only leads to confusion and anger.
First, you are not automatically my friend...I don't know you from 222222.

Granted, I'd like to get to know you better, but don't jump so soon to any conclusion.

There is no Hell.....there is no Heaven. It's all metaphor and symbolism representing higher truths.

Consider the tyrranical nature of the Old Testament God; that is merely a representation of how ancient Men viewed the Almighty.

They lived in a violent world surrounded by enemies....thus, they desired a Deity that was warlike and strong.

They placed upon the Source of All the traits they desired Him to have.
Whatever metaphorical explanation you assert, if any, I cannot accept them as credible explanations of reality.

The Bible is simply nonsensical and utterly useless as a guide for real human progress, love and understanding of the universe...especially as an undefinable or individually interpretive piece of literature as you appear to assert.

Granted many Christians are good in spite of the doctrine they claim is loving...and this reflects their human quality, not their 'Christian' dogma.

Reality is not a metaphor and more valuable that way.

Consider "Heaven" to be "union with God," and Hell to be "total seperation from God," and you understand my views entirely. They are not literal places.
Such a whimsical interpretation does not alleviate the implied 'good thing' vs 'bad thing'...and that is what counts...your gumbo mumbo jumbo notwithstanding.

Still, 'everlasting fire' is fairly specific, six ones...are you sure about your interpretation?
