Transhumanism is a belief in things that -- through enough time and effort -- could actually be fulfilled in the real world.

And why aren't many people interested in this thread?! Doesn’t anyone want to find a cure for religion?!

WHAT THE F@#$??? :banghead: :banghead:

Whether they could be fulfilled or not is irrelevant. It's still a comfort drug. But there's nothing wrong with that. And on that note...

No, I for one see no need to find a cure for religion. I don't believe it is a disease requiring a cure. The practice of some religions could use an overhaul, perhaps, but not religion itself. I'm quite happy with mine, thank you very much.

A "comfort drug" that is based on real knowledge from a real world. Unlike religion, it is not based on an imaginary world that is without any reason or evidence, or a book that could have been written by anyone with spare time and a little imagination.

Doesn't really matter. A drug is a drug is a drug.

The first link should've been renamed "Dangers of Politicising Religion". Greed and politics can corrupt anything. Although he didn't win many points by talking about "Hindu/Buddists in India". India is primarily hindu, not buddhist. The likelihood of a buddhist being part of the indian government is slim to none.

I didn't bother reading the second one, since I don't believe in god.

Okay... whats your point? Do you have something against Transhumanism? If yes, why?

I have nothing against it, which is exactly the difference between the two of us. I have nothing against any religion or secular "belief system", whereas you are dogmatically against theism of any form. You seem driven to replace one dogma with another dogma. That's what's so amusing. In the end, though, it's all the same.

You know, I can't help but note how positively evangelistic you are about this transhumanism stuff, SecularFuture. You even have the "anal-retentive, defensive lack of humor about the subject" schtick down! I'd probably find it more attractive as a philosophy if the first representitive of transhumanism I meet (on line at least) didn't act like a Baptist street preacher handing out tracts.
