Would it be an insult if I called all atheists immature?

I would say so.

In my experience some atheists are mature and some are not. And some theists are mature and some are not.

I think there's more to maturity than what a person believes. Personally I think it has more to do with whether that person is able to show self-restraint; whether he/she is willing to make an effort to understand another person's perspective; whether he/she admits how much they don't really know.

Personally, I think those who make a lot of sweeping, general, assertions lack maturity because the world is not that way. They are the ones who are not seeing what is real - and I've observed atheists doing that as well as theists.

You would have to logically justify that calling "...all atheists immature..." because they don't believe in ill-defined gods, makes "...atheists immature...".

Me, I can logically justify that believing in the Bible's 'God' for example, is frequently a psychological crutch for the socially powerless people -hence curby's calling (and mine too) of theists immature- , while it is a scam run by the socially powerful people like the ones in Vatican.

It's a thoughtless and unfair label for theists in general.

If single criterion definitions of immaturity were indeed acceptable, one might justifiably call you immature for the use of blanket denigration. But they aren't, so I ain't.

Synaesthesia,

I think that "...single criterion definitions of immaturity..." applies here to people who dedicate the foremost of their identity to belief in proved falsehood.

Who the hell are YOU to say that christians believe in God because they WANT to and not because they donīt UNDERSTAND????

I would say otherwise.

People believe in God because they donīt understand how the Universe works, they donīt understand how they Laws of Physics work, or Evolution, or whatever scientific branch.

Most of the believers donīt use rational or critical thinking to comprehende the Universe. They prefer to say Godidit, not because they want to, but because thatīs their frame of reference.

There are other kind of believers, a very small number of believers who are more intelligent. In order to make Godīs existence neccesary, they build a whole belief system.

gulfwar veteran,

IMO, simply posting a link to a website you think is cool is off-topic here, as well as inconsiderate of the posters already participating in this discussion. You might consider starting a thread on it in General Religious Discussions or Elsewhere.

Thank you.

Default Oh really?

We appreciate all our posters in Evidences of God, however, complaints against a moderator action should be taken to the Bugs,Problems, Complaints, Suggestions and Questions Forum.

Gulf War Veteran, you are welcome to appeal Diana's decision to the administrators in Bugs... or via pm, but until they have made a decision otherwise the link will be considered inappropriate in the forum.

My apologies to all for this off topic post.

Gulfwar Veteran:

I see that you are new here, so I will offer you a quick word of advice: If you have a problem with a moderator or administrator's actions, the proper place to complain is in the Bugs, Problems, Complaints, Suggestions and Questions forum, located under the Feeback heading. Complaining in the thread in question will get you nowhere.
