Oh Biobeing, Im sorry to hear that your son went thru that.

Part of the problem in America today is lack of knowledge of how an intact penis should be cared for...

The most important thing that need to be taught its DO NOT TOUCH, that is for the child alone to do. It is normal for them to not retract up untill puberty and sometimes not untill the end of puberty (approx 17-18)

The number one reason of circ'ing an older boy is infections caused by prematurly retracting the foreskin. Or a foreskin that wont "retract" when its compleatly normal for them not to.

The ignorance of The Doctors today is astounding. Its very common to take your intact son in for their well visits and the doctor will try and retract the foreskin, or tell you that it needs to be washed with soap, or that you need to retract it. All of these can and do lead to reoccuring infections.

Anyway, I am glad to say that in Canada these days infant circumcision is virtually extinct, and has been for quite a while.
Unfortunatly that isnt always the case, when my son was born in 1999 we were encouraged to circ him, and we were given worong info about the pros and cons of it. The only positive thing was I insisted on a nerve block when it was done. 75% of may friends sons were also Cut up untill about 2001 when the hospitals started promoting leaving the child intact.

Exactly. Someone finally said it.

I've talked to many women on this particular subject, and the answer is nearly always the same.....uncirsumsized penises are not pretty to look at. Sure it's just what we as people have been conditioned to believe, but I couldn't imagine my bits looking any different.

Any porn I've ever watched(save for one, which had an uncut guy, which led me to understand just why it grosses women out) has a guy who's cut. It just seems to be the norm.

You can't blame everything you don't like on religion, you know. Sometimes, people just do things because that's the way they've always been done. While I don't personally agree with such an outlook, I feel that the problem should be more accurately diagnosed.

Of course, when I was born(1982) people thought that circumscision had great health benefits. To my understanding, this has pretty much been disproven. However, the cleanliness and odor issue is still there. (this was also mentioned several times by female friends) so I can honestly say I'm glad I am the way I am.

To each his own, I suppose.

These polls are always entertaining when they come up due to the perceptions of the uncut vs. the cut. The uncut will use ammo such as "more feeling" and worthlessness of the proceedure. While the cut will talk about cleanliness and looks. From what I've gathered, women usually don't give a shit about such an issue. A penis is ugly as hell either way. The cleanliness and smell issue seems more like a case by case basis. Some people clean better and others just seem to be a bacteria power plant. Sensation I'd say would have to go on a case by case basis. I really doubt theres much of a difference in the end.

I say that uncut is better for masturbation, because there would be no need for lubrication.

Ask any woman with an uncut partner and she'll tell you it makes a huge difference....Sex with an uncut man is better. The natural sliding motion of the foreskin along the penis means more sensation for the woman and man as well as not rubbing us raw....

Heres a bit of info...the average adult male foreskin is 12-15 square inches in size and contains 10,000-20,000 nerve endings

~80% of the worlds male population is intact...

And the reasons so often given for circ (cleanliness, Preventing IUT, To look like Parent/playmates) Are the exact same reasons used to justify Female genital mutilation in countries where that is still Done

I'm cut, and so is my son (my wife deferred to me on that decision when we had him, although she was leaning towards doing it). My sister, who is due in about 5 weeks with a boy has decided not to have her son cut, which I found rather interesting. Me, I'm kinda lazy, so I wouldn't want to have to deal with the extra care and attention, and am a bit antsy about babysitting my nephew in the future for that reason.

The doctor that did my son actually nicked a vein so he kept us all in the hospital for a while to make sure everything was OK (which it was, there's no evidence of it now). He seemed somewhat nervous coming in to tell a set of first time parents (my wife and I) what had happened, but we were fine. We felt badly for our son of course, but no upset.

Someone mentioned better sensation for the uncut ... I can't imagine it feeling better still! But still, I like how I am. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

In the UK it is rare to be circumcised. The practice died out after the first world war because hospitals started charging for the privilege. Speaking as an uncircumcised guy living in a country where circumcision of any type is unusual, a lot of the talk about 'extra maintenance/hassle' just doesn't make any sense to me.

Pre-puberty, I don't remember ever trying to roll back my foreskin. The fact that it bloody well hurt to try this before it's properly separated from the glans sort of discouraged that. For young boys, there's no more maintenance required for an uncut member than a cut one.

(I'm also mystified as to why anyone advises cleaning the foreskin and glans with soap; having done so once or twice, it dries the glans out a hell of a lot and makes it much less sensitive. Rinsing it out under the shower-head seems to be the most comfortable and easiest way to keep things nice down there.)

It's difficult to know for sure how much sensitivity you lose if circumcised, but I imagine that there must be a quite substantial loss, since it's very uncomfortable for me if my glans happens to brush against anything rough or dry, like trouser material. The fact that curcumcised guys can happily walk about at all with their glans exposed seems to point to a loss of sensitivity, because there's no way in hell I could do that.

Shake, what "extra care and attention" are you talking about? The foreskin is connected to the glans in infants or young males, so there should not be any extra care or attention such as attempting to clean underneath it. As for cleaning the foreskin once it is disconnected, it is trivially easy: just retract it and give it a wash (no soap required), and if that isn't frequent enough cleaning for you also squeeze it shut for a moment while going to the bathroom.

And as Mendeh points out, that cicumsized men can walk around with their glans exposed is the best indicator of decreased sensitivty I have ever heard of.
