I personally find the sincere belief in a god unfathomable. It seems to me that it would take very little intelligence to reject religious principals. I knew for myself that i certainly did not believe in god and especially that the teachings of any religion was based on nothing tangible before i was 8 years old. Up to that point i hadn't pondered the concept very much. Now I am fairly sure that the average adult person has greater reasoning capabilities than i did at age 8, which would lead me to think that intelligence isn't a factor. Except that in my experiences it seems quite obvious that the greater ones intelligence in general, the less likely they are to accept god and religion. I don't have any real statistics to prove that however.
So is maturity more to blame? The term can be misleading, one could easily have a mature outlook on one subject and not another. Perhaps one could be emotionally immature but philisophically not so. How would one judge this? However, i must admit that i find the blind devotion to faith without any real evidence to support it extremely immature indeed. When I was younger i was convinced that noone could really believe the nonsense theological teachings, and that there was an ulterior motive involved. I believed that the church leaders used it as a method of control. And the large majority of followers felt that their religion was good for society regardless of truth. Now I honestly don't know what to believe, and I find it impossible to trust anyone who claims to believe in their god(s). Conclusion: I just can not begin to understand the workings of their minds... |

I get told, when the other party cannot argue any longer, "Belief brings you Krishna, arguments cannot".

This is true. It is apparent that we have a strong genetic disposition to an emotion called "spirituality" To be able to give in to everything and just believe is most likely the most blissful feeling and when organized into a congregation it is experienced more strongly. I would say there are moments in my life that i have experienced this emotion, but my mind will not let me give in to it. |
