My favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut, with a close second in James Joyce.
For "cotton candy" books, I enjoy Pratchett the most, although for pure raw infantile humor I prefer Piers Anthony (puns > all). |

Given that the question is not best, but merely favourite, I must be another vote for Douglas Adams. There are many writers with superior mastry of their craft, but no-one matches D.N.A. for plain old enjoyability and intriguing turns of phrase.
My favourite: "They hung in the sky in exactly the same way that bricks don't" |

For fiction:
The best writer im reading right now is Italo Calvino. Brillant and daring author. my favorites are probably something like Orwell, Ralph Ellison, Faulkner, Kafka, Kurt Vonnegurt, Dosteovesky, Camus and I might just half to say Chuck P. |
