Almost all of the previously mentioned movies were funny as hell (my parents introduced me to Airplane, et. all from before I was born). But..

...the funniest movie I ever saw was Dumb & Dumber. Ban me from this forum... now.

Talking

I'm going to have to go with a liter of cola and "Super Troopers" . . . I was so surprised that this didn't suck that it's brilliance is still kind of amorphis in my brain. I rented it and haven't been able to cough up the cash to buy a copy yet.

"All right, meow. . . "

I also liked "Man on the Moon", "Robin Hood, Men in Tights," "Igby Goes Down," "Big Lebowski."

The best movies are good comedies. And the most insightful thinkers are often the funniest, as well.

Not that "Robin Hood, Men in Tights," has any possible explanation on the place of humanity in the universe. Besides to meow get verschnickered on the sacrimental wine.

And as if this post wasn't going to piss people off enough already, does anyone really think that Woody Allen is amusing?
Wow! it's funny how we are all different. I think Brooks and Allen are the two funniest filmmakers ever.

My favourites:

Brooks: High Anxiety

Allen: Love and Death

My favourites:

Brooks: Blazing Saddles (Sure it's childish, but everybody still laughs at the fart scene).

Allen: Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Sex* (Tony Randall and Burt Reynolds in "Mission Control" were hilarious, and Gene Wilder obsessing over Daisy makes me lose it every time.

And nobody mentions the magnificent O Brother Where Art Thou and Fargo? That's a shame, together with The Big Lebowski they're the funniest films made in years'. (or maybe it's just fanboyism on my side )

Other favourites: Some Like It Hot, MP And The Holy Grail, MP's Life of Brian, Dr. Strangelove and The Full Monty

It's interesting to see that there seems to be such agreement on what the funniest movies are, all my favourites have already been mentioned.

I suppose good comedy, is good comedy.

Good to see the Python movies are popular, too. Most people my age don't generally seem to appreciate that sort of humour.

Anyway, in specific order.

Life of Brian
Holy Grail
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Meaning of Life
Office Space
Hot Shots #2
The Naked Gun Movies

Does anyone else really dislike the mainstream comedies that get released these days? American Pie, and such? I just can't find them funny.

Sweet and Lowdown
