I had a great idea last night:
I remember hearing stories after Sept. 11 about a little Greek Orthodox church that stood in the shadow of the WTC. It had been there for years. Obviously, it was destroyed in the attack, but the church fathers insisted they would rebuild. When they do, put the cross in front of their new church. It'll be on private religious property, but it will also be at the WTC site. I don't know much about Greek Othodox, so maybe they wouldn't like this. Or maybe other sects would throw a fit. Otherwise, this might make everyone happy. And Jamie |

The judge is still living (at least as of last fall), blind, very old, etc., and a human interest story is run on him when our local freethought group requests the 10 Cs in Fargo be moved to private property. Talks about how hurt he is by people wanting to do this, how the 10 Cs can't possibly be seen as a Christian symbol, etc. In short, the media used this guy as a way to get the public to feel real sympathy for the 10 Cs. I just had another thought about the ground zero "cross": God not only left a Christian symbol to make us all feel better, he/she left an endorsement of a specific sect of Christianity.
If the workmen had been Russian or Greek Orthodox, the "cross" would have been perceived as just rubble. |

Yep, I think you've got it.
God left that particular cross to let us know he only feels bad about the deaths of those who were Christians, and not Eastern Orthodox either. The rest of the dead, he didn't give a toss about. |

Oresta,
As an Orthodox Christian I can tell you that you are wrong. I have a cross from a monk in Jerusalem that is two simple pieces of wood. I also have another cross that shows the bottom crossbar where Jesus's feet was nailed. Both of them are meaningful to me. Jamie's idea sounds like a good one to me, but I'm still wondering... Where would it fit? That was a tiny Church you know! Oh, and I suspect God grieved far more than us that day. |

Yeah, God grieved. He had a lead on Allah going into the top of the 8th, but that lead vanished when Allah managed four consecutive hits.
Maybe god's gonna bring in Jesus for the 9th. I've heard he's got a lot of saves. |
