How can people take DUI seriously when assholes like Premier Gordon Campbell seem to think they only need to apolgize over it?
http://cbc.ca/storyview/CBC/2003/02/11/campbell030211 I mean this guy was not just a little tipsy, he could barely walk!! And look at the 'shit eating' grin on his face in the mug shots. He really looks like he is taking it seriously: http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com...ged_cpt108.jpg Now I am not going to claim I don't drive after only a couple of drinks, however I am twice as careful if I have had a few and obey all traffic limits and signs to the letter. It is all a question of using your head and knowing if you are impaired or not. An idiot drunk driver was almost certainly an idiot sober driver. There are many things that cause impairment or distraction: tiredness, cellphones, radio, talking to passengers, smoking, etc. and it is all a question of degree. I don't think there is any reason to be a 0 BA level zelot but some things are pretty clear; if you can't walk you shouldn't drive and if you are such an idiot driver that only your quick reaction times are keeping you out of trouble than you better not drive even after one drink. PS. Just for clarity I am a 110kg caucasian male with a full genetic inheritance of alcohol dehydrogenase so my tolerance of a couple drinks over an hour without impairment may not match you; eg. a 50 kg Asian female or something ![]() |

My friend Kelly who I'd been friends with since the second grade where we attended catholic school together was killed by a drunk driver. I cried for days and it is something that has stayed with me. scroll down to the picture for brief story about the incident the man was a teacher and made the choice to drink and drive. people will suffer because of his mistake for the rest of their lives. So sad...

And I hold very little regard to anyone who'd make such a terrible choice to decide to drive drunk.
People can change, you know. Unfortunately, so many people have done so means that very few people would support much tougher laws on drunk driving. Fucking hypocrits. I've admittedly done so, in my younger, dumber days, and I support much tougher laws on drunk driving. I'm sure there's many more like me. How about this? I hope that every person that has driven drunk, sees their family get into an alcohol related accident. How about that? It's a ridiculous, thoughtless sentiment - hoping harm comes to "innocent" others due to the action of an irresponsible relative. Do you realize that, if anyone in your family (besides you) has ever driven under the influence, you're hoping that your family, perhaps even you, gets into an alcohol-related accident? Do you realize that you're hoping that we maintain enough drunk drivers out there to fulfill your wish? Hoping for even more DUI-related carnage, just to punish the past actions of some? A bit hypocritical, there aren't you? Shouldn't you rather be hoping that no one gets into an alcohol-related accident? |

Eh?
The only reason to object to people driving drunk is the possibility of "an alcohol-related accident". There's no reason to give a shit about a Robinson Crusoe tearing round an island in a 4 by 4 wired out his skull. If the only person he's gonna kill is him I don't give a fuck. I only care about drunk driving because it impacts people other than the stupid fuck behind the wheel. Drunk driving on your own private road, well away from innocent bystanders, bothers me not a jot. |

No. I should be hoping that people don't drive drunk.
Umm, they're one and the same for the most part, aren't they? As long as there are people DUI on public roads, there will be DUI-related accidents on those roads. If there are no DUI-related accidents on public roads, I'd take it as pretty convincing evidence that people aren't DUI on the roads. |

Good on you!
Drunk driving is one of my peeves. I had always thought it was idiotic, and watched my uncle the Sheriff do it all the time. Then one killed my sister. My uncle said something along the lines of "That was just some idiot that doesen't know how to drive drunk." I didn't know Grandad had it in him, and that was one of the most vicious beatings I have ever witnessed. Uncle no longer drinks, much less drives drunk. |

Damn Abe, are you in a bad mood today?
I've been convicted -- please don't shoot me, I'll never do it again, I've learned my lesson, I haven't had a valid drivers license since late 2000, and public transit in this suburb of Wilmington blows, so I am stuck working shit jobs within walking distance!!! PS: We young people push our sock down. |
