Default Stupid mentality about nurses in India

My mum was telling me that my cousin in India was thinking of becoming a nurse but she and her parents were worried because of the way (some) people see girls who become nurses. My mum said that they think the women are.....tarty, dirty or something like that because they touch strange men. My mum said she missed out on being a nurse because of it(My bastard dad didn't help much either)
My mum just told them to forget that and let her be a nurse. They are crying out for nurses here in Britain so if she qualified she could come over here and earn, relatively, loads of money. Although that doesn't help India much.
Another incentive is that the course would be free because my Grandad fought for independence way back when so she would automatically get a scholarship. So why waste the opportunity for the sake of a stupid cultural artefact?

When those strange men have diseases I think it's brave to even go near them.

There is also a nursing shortage in the US too if I remember correctly.

I wouldn't jump to any immediate generalizations. After all, India seems to be one of the largest exporters of Nurses probably after Phillippines. But I do agree that there is a weird sort of stigma associated with Nurses. Atleast in the olden times nurses were usually portrayed as having loose values in movies, etc.
