BINGO ---Starboy

You got it!!!!!

As I stated before----a Christian is someone who believes himself sincerely to be a Christian. That is my only requirement. Why would anyone have a problem with that?

I might add, but even I could give a little on the point------is that a Christian should also believe that somebody named Jesus Christ did exist and something at least somewhat supernatural happened during His lifetime.

I might even add, but even less strong on this one-------is that a Christian should also believe that Jesus Christ was a mixture of God and man. And that He came to Earth to teach us something.

The rest of Christianity is just arguing about details.

As you can see-----------I am very liberal in my definition of a Christian. And----------liberal Christians like myself are the best kind, you know.

But---------I still have no real problem with the first definition. If you sincerely think you are a Christian---then you are. If you sincerely think you are an atheist---then you are. Assuming you are above the age of 10 and have an IQ above 80 why should I doubt you?

Us Cherry Pickers rule you know.

What is your evidence? Define "best" in this context.

And to most of your previous aurguments "I like" does not equal "is correct".

It’s like counting 1,3,5,7 and deciding that the sequence can be followed forever, therefore all odd numbers must be prime.
To pick a (rather important) nit, 1 is not prime.

However, 8,675,309 is prime.

Not that I really expect you to support me on anything else----that was nice of you.

Duplicate again.

Sorry about that. Seems to be very difficult to delete one of a pair of duplicates on this forum.

Well, I like Rational BAC.
But I think, Rational, you’re making a mistake.
Faith cannot be rationalised: if it were not irrational, it wouldn’t be Faith.
If your brain allows you to be certain about things for which there is no Earthly justification, then logic and reason cannot be applied to them because logic and reason are tools we’ve devised for dealing with reality.
You might as well try digging a hole in the sea with a garden fork as apply natural parameters to the supernatural.
Your religious certainties belong to you, uniquely. Some of them may seem to overlap some of those of some of your fellow Christians, and with them you may celebrate a sense of something shared, but I’m pretty sure that the certainties of every Believer are individually fine-tuned to meet his/ or her specific needs and requirements.
I’m pretty sure that even the most Fundamental Fundamentalist does some private cherry-picking - and that’s a total presumption on my part because the point of being the most Fundamental Fundamentalist is not to admit any such thing, so how can I possibly know?
It’s what I suspect.
Believing in something which has no physical existence and about which the consensus is not much of a consensus at all, considering all the cherry picking which goes on, allows you immense liberty. But in order to exercise it openly requires a certain audacity.
The evidence we’ve seen here is that you’ve got it: you know it gets you into trouble with the Fundamentalists, and you were right in thinking it irritates atheists.
Thing is, we like consistency - it’s one of the reasons many of us are atheists. So my advice is: believe what you want to believe whether it’s true or not, and have a good life, but don’t try explaining it.

Click on the "EDIT" button ion the bottom right corner of the second of the duplicate pair.

Select and then delete the contents.

Type "Sorry - Duplicate" or similar

Click "SAVE CHANGES"

You cannot just delete the entire post on this forum, so thats as neat as you can do it.

I don’t have a problem with it since all Christians are so by self declaration. There is no commonly accepted objective standard of Christianity that I am aware of. The Catholic Church at one time could claim that role but not any more.

Again, there is no objective standard. Why would an atheist care one way or the other? Rational BAC, I think you will learn if you spend some time on this board that most atheists would be fine with the religious (cherry pickers or otherwise) if they would just learn to keep it where it belongs. There are some things that should be practiced in private or with those of your own kind and IMO religion is one of them.

Good for you. What are you doing about separation of church and state? What are you doing about opposing the aggressive practices of the religious such as proselytizing countries that have well entrenched non-Christian traditions and pissing them off to the point where they now hate the US? What are you doing about opposing the teaching of creationism as science? I could give a rats a** about what kind of Christian you think you are. It is your right under the constitution to be any kind of a cherry pick’n Christian you like. But from where I see things Christians suck.

As to your point about atheists, I agree. An atheist is also self proclaimed, but I think there is a way to test for being an atheist, but without a standard for being Christian I don’t think there could ever be a test for being Christian.
