I don't know which of us you think is in a state of mortal sin, perhaps you think all of us are.

YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND YOUR OWN RELIGION.
To be in a state of mortal sin a person must have full awareness that he/she has done something gravely wrong. The contributors who made jokes about Chango the sky God and Chanbo the land God do not intend to offend any real God. They do not believe in any God. They are making what they believe are harmless jokes.

I would assume none of you attend Catholic Mass weekly, or recieve Communion during the Easter season, or attend Confession at least annually.

Now you know, you're in a state of mortal sin. You can't plead ignorance. And becuase you do not believe it to be a mortal sin, it does not lose its seriousness.

Yes, but we can plead rationality and intellectual integrity.

I've never chosen hell. I don't believe in hell.

But apparently you believe God sends people there anyway, and for no better reason than they did not go to church or confession often enough.

Hi GT,

This really doesn't much sense if you think about it. If your theology is true, then who created this "Hell" in the first place? When millions of Jews endured hardship and torture during the Holocaust, do you really think they wanted to "choose" to endure more torture in the afterlife when they were finally slain?

Also, doesn't this theology completely run contrary to the notion of an omnibenevolent deity? Is it really a "just and righteous" thing for a deity to consign billions to eternal torture simply because they won't be his cheerleader?

How do you define the word "good"?

I believe that Allah will reward the faithful with virgins in paradise. There, it's true!

Of course not, dear. We're atheists, not Catholics.

That is what the Catholic side of my family thought. Of course, the Baptist side thought I would go to hell if I DID do those things.

But again, I am atheist, and can be conveniently damned from all angles with surprisingly little effort. It's the neatest thing since shampoo and conditioner in one.

Ah, yes, wasn't this the same way you came to believe in "God"? "I believe gawd exists. There it must be true."

Do you plan on posting anything of substance, or will you continue to perpetuate the nonsense that suits you and your religion so well?

May I suggest this be moved to RRP? It's an eyesore in MRD.

Interestingly, following the prescribed Catholic regimen was considered a "mortal sin" tantamount to "choosing Hell" in the denomination I grew up in!

So...if you don't go to Catholic services and/or receive the sacraments as you say - presumably ministered by a Catholic priest - then you're in a state of mortal sin?

Has it ever occurred to you that this could be a control thing, Gemma Therese?

My church would wonder if someone stopped going and hopefully would contact them about why. But they wouldn't say they are hellbound simply because they aren't attending church and receiving the sacraments. They don't believe salvation can only be 'dispensed' by them, in other words.

love
