I took the physics C AP tests (both E&M and mechanical) in my junior year. When I came out, I was sure that I had bombed both of them. It turned out that I got 5's on both, so I got eight credits toward my major. It just goes to show how much my worries about the test counted.

I took several more in my senior year and got 5's on all of them except English composition and literature. Okay, give me my scarlet letter G for "gearhead," or maybe just for "geek."

I showed up at Johns Hopkins with more than a year's worth of AP credits, figuring that they would be used to that by then. In fact, they had no idea what to do with me.

UNC took all my AP credits as well as all the classes I took at Duke during high school.

I don't know what you're planning on majoring in. but when I came to college I did not want to take all the math and science basic requirements they had. My AP credits definitely helped me out in that regard and because of them, I'm able to doublemajor in two of the biggest majors on campus now.

So rack up the AP points while you can. But hey, don't get a hernia or anything stressing out about them.

Boy, I'll say! At least, I found that my A+ in AP Calc and 5 on the Calc AB in no way prepared me for anything more complicated than taking an AP test. When they shoved me in Honors Calc II, it was hell, and I couldn't transfer out to an easier (lower-level) class because on my AP score. *grumble* I look back on this as the beginning of my downward academic spiral.

The person next door took an AP Calculus course last year, but said that he learned much more in his college Calculus course. It was not useless for him, as he is currently receiving decent grades in that course while failing everything else he is currently taking.

I wouldn't worry too much about the impact of AP tests on your future. They may give you a head start if you do well, but they won't put you behind if you don't.
*sigh of relief* I'm not the only person not to ace an AP. *phew*

Then again, I believe the US military was bombing the room next door to our testing area. Man, that was a bit of a distraction.

If nothing else, AP is good for character. Taking Chem AP and US History AP was important in shaping my attitude for college, which ironically I didn't start Dean's Listing (3.5 min, none of that 3.0 min crap at other schools ) until my junior and senior years, when the stuff got more intense.

I suggest you take as many AP courses as you can.

Since you're talking about getting another chance on your Calculus next year, I assume you're a junior in high school right now. If you're already taking AP courses, I assume that you're finding high school fairly easy and you should take advantage of this time to get a head start on college.

When you get there, you'll either be able to get a jump on things and perhaps do a double major without so much extra work or take a lighter workload to be able to focus more on the classes you do take. Either way you win.

Damn, I only ever took AP Calculus and AP English Literature. Wait, I think there may have been another English one that I took. In any case, one of the English ones was tricky because I hadn't actually done any work on it before taking the exam.

Yep, thats what I plan on doing, except I'm a sophmore. So ill finish off Calc, Calc 2, Stats, Chem, Physics, History, possibly english, and maybe Bio and Enviromental science.
