good point godless dave. the bible does have some stuff about slavery and how much slaves are worth, but i have never seen anything so out rightly disgusting as the quotes from the talmud.

i mean to call someone like jesus a piece of shit is plain rude. and calling non jews animals and gentiel women whores? i think first place in asshole religions goes to the jews for this one.

Me too. I'd just like to point out that there is all sorts of crazy stuff in there, and it's not like it's all representative or actually practiced. There is, I kid you not, a story in the Talmud about two Rabbis who had enormous dicks. As a (former) Orthodox Jew, I never heard of that spitting three times thing or of the Jesus being made of fecal matter, for example.

I did learn in the Talmud that stealing (for example) from a non-Jew is a lesser crime than stealing from a Jew, but it was more of an academic issue, not a "so you can go steal from non-Jews" kind of thing. It's actually said that one of the purposes of the Jewish people is to "be a light unto the nations," i.e. to live good lives so that the rest of the world will see them and change themselves accordingly.

There is definitely some anti-Christian stuff in the Talmud, but keep in mind it was written centuries and centuries ago, and during a time where Christians often persecuted and killed the Jews. (Not that that excuses it being taught as anything other than "here is what some rabbis used to think and we cannot stress enough how we no longer believe in this sort of thing.")

There is, among some Orthodox and especially "ultra-Orthodox" Jews, certainly some bigotry. Watching "religious" people, including at least one rabbi, tell racist jokes was one of the things that made me much more sure of leaving Orthodoxy. However, I don't think it is particularly worse than any other ethnic/religious group.

Of all the religious groups in the world, the Jews are among the least harmful, not committing genocide, forced conversion, crusades, and generally leaving the rest of the world alone.

It's true that Judaism is as mistaken and foolish as other theistic religions, but not in any way true that Jews or Judaism are any more racist than any other group.

Re: the holocaust---This is so upsetting. My mother was a holocaust survivor. Her ENTIRE FAMILY was murdered by the nazis because of these same kind of evil, hateful lies. Don't tell me there was no holocaust. What they mean is, it doesn't matter if you only kill 7 million Jews, we don't call that a holocaust because Jews aren't really people.

This is a misinterpretation. The source is a Mishnah in Nidda 31b. First it is not speaking about gentiles but about Jews, second Niddah means the menstruation cycle and not filth.

A gentile has no status of Niddah, however a female Jew who has had her menstruation period has a certain type of status until the flow has stopped and she has dipped in a natural pool of water - Mikveh. This statement regards a Rabbinical decree categorizing all female Jewish members of the Jewish sect of Cuthites (something like Saduccees) as Niddah from birth, unless proved otherwise, as they did not keep the laws of the Niddah properly so a collective decree had to be issued.

Nope. The name "Yeshu" occurs in only one edition - probably written in by one scribe with a grudge. The actual text concerns "Balaam" - and the story is being told by a rabbi who, as I understand it, died before Jesus was even born.

I don't know a damn thing about the talmud or any jewish teachings becaue I'm not jewish, that's why I couldn't very well tell him it's not true. I realize that there's a bad history of anti-jewish people, but he wasn't spreading propaganda he was asking a question. Calling people "you gentiles" as if we're somehow different from you doesn't help keep people from thinking racist things. It does nothing more but create more of a gap between people so that the gap can be exploited. There is no different between me and you or york, we're all the same species so acting as if we're different doesn't help anything.
