Crikey! And even then you only manage to chalk up 11 posts in more than a year. Sheesh! You could have "I lurk you long time" as your sig. ...should we have sigs. which we don't....

Eh. I talk too much.

Hmmmm... a link on that our pets site above led me to this site...Wild Animal World

I was greeted by this picture...

Is it me, or does this not seem like the safest pet to have around a child?

Christ on Wheels. I mean, it wouldn't even have to be trying to hurt her to do serious damage. I've seen tiger cubs on television shows about zoos and breeding programs and such, and they're strong, and have sharp claws and teeth. Even a domestic cat can harm a person, and a tiger cub is like that only with the damage multiplied by a hell of a lot. And a pet tiger? WTF? Considering the tiger population of the world, we shouldn't be having them as pets. Plus, it's dangerous enough as a cub, wait until it's grown. Crikey.

Agreed. Our cat is barely six months old, and when he gets over-excited during playtime he'll grab my hand and "shred" my wrist with his back feet. I shudder to think what would happen if a tiger cub behaved that way, especially with a child. I also agree that raising tiger cubs as pets is pretty unjustifiable on a moral level.

Some people just have no idea.

Someone tell me those aren't real animals, just dolls.

The alternative is too scary for words.

Agreed. I've been hoping someone would do just that (find a way to demonstrate they're stuffed animals or whatever, preferably not "real" stuffed animals).

Unfortunately, I wouldn't assume they're fake. I once discovered that the neighbors of some people I knew on Vancouver Island had a god damned cougar cub as their "pet." One of them told me that they were going to raise it so it'd love them, and then it'd protect them and make an absolutely great guard animal (absolute geniuses, I tell you). This was a supposedly non retarded adult who told me this. Not even a "young adult." He was in his 40s. He and his girlfriend did have children living with them. Yes, the proper authorities were promptly notified when we learned this (these idiots proudly showed off the cub and gushed to us all about "Killer").

Edit: I was 10 at the time, so maybe my memory is off. I'll post later after I've confirmed this with someone who was there and was older, or have been laughed at and told I have a wild memory. It's what I remember but it sounds crazy.

Edit2:

Alright, it was largely as I remembered. The guy was a bit younger than I thought but an adult (in his 30s). Nothing consequential.

My parents had a couple of monkeys before I was born. While they make interesting pets they are a *LOT* of headaches, also. One incident they told me about:

The monkeys were loose in the room, they were working on the cage. My dad asked my mom for the screwdriver. She handed it to him. He asked her for the screwdriver. Oops--a monkey had accepted it! The monkey was using it to take apart the cage.

Also, I doubt the incubation period of rabies is known. Without knowing it they tend to kill any animal that bites someone to test it for rabies.
