Okay, here's the situation. I'm finishing up my student teaching. I'm in the 7th grade. My mentor teacher isn't very religious, but he often makes religious comments. Today we were at lunch and he made the damn "no atheists in foxholes" comment, which is the quickest way to get my blood to boil. I said, "Don't tell me that; don't say that to me." And he kept right on talking, ignoring what I said. I don't know if he heard me and/or realized what I was talking about or not.
Anyway, he recently gave me his e-mail address. I was thinking about e-mailing him an article or two on foxhole atheists. Not in an antagonistic manner, but just to say, "Yes, there are atheists in foxholes!" We are friendly with each other, but I don't know how this would be received. Plus, I do need him for a reference in the future. I don't know if he's the kind of guy who would hold that against me or not. I don't think so, but I'm not certain. So, should I or shouldn't I? If I do it, it will be tonight. |

If you need him for a reference, I would let it go. He's not worth it.

I feel the best way to face a punch is to punch back equally, at appropriate times. Small bits of humor, positive atheist, not negative theist, being shuttled along every once in a while in response to his terms would be sufficient in my mind. Smart wit is rarely punished, as long as it is done in good faith and with respect, that's why the remarks need to be positive atheism, not negative theism.
That's only my opinion. I also thought the Taliban was going to give up bin Laden. I have been wrong before. ![]() |

Someone on this board had a good reply to this, it went something like this:
"Oh yeah, no atheists in foxholes eh? Well, wars are fought with foxholes, and no atheists are in foxholes, therefore if everybody was an atheist then there would be no wars." |

Whoops! I voted without checking the date. Oh well, and I see you've already made your decision to keep quiet on it. Good idea. Gotta agree with Jagged on this one.
Oh, by the way, about this: Quote:
