Default Hypothetical Situation Number 2

Ok, here is a second one:

Say country A has a large amount of a natural resource (say oil), that you, country B, desparatly need, and have no other way of getting. Country A is a peaceful democracy but they are very anti-Country B. They do not want to have anything to do with you. No matter how much you offer, they are not willing to sell you the oil. Your countries economy needs the resource badly (since your own oil wells have dried up), and you are facing a severe crisis.

What do you do (pick one of the following or have your own suggestion):

A) Do nothing
B) Launch a full scale attack on country B
C) Support any dissident movements within the government (this movement is very anti-democratic, uses torture, violence, intimidation..etc..)
D) Start terrorizing the public (covertly) by finding a radical movement that attacks civilians in hopes of a government change
E) Buy some senior members of the military off, and organize a COUP
F) Continue (almost-hopeless) negotiations and try to improve relations

I would probably do number C or E, because I think that has the greatest chance of succeeding (D may take a while and the fact that usually you cant trust any radicals)

What would you do? If you would do something different, please explain yourself.

of those choices i would do f. it's not that difficult to have good relations if you have something they want, maybe.

outside of those choices in a more realistic world, i would just get the oil from another country. many places have oil.

and i'm sure there are many countries that would like something that the u.s. can provide yet are not getting any help at all. i'm glad they are not waging a selfish war on us for it. but it's not because they are self-less people, i doubt. its just that they probably cannot wage a war on us and win. it's best to pick fights with countries that you know you can win.

For this hypothetical situation, we assume that we have no other way of getting this resource. Using oil is just an example.

If country A is the only place to get this resource, and they hate country B, why did country B allow themselves to be dependent upon it?

No, wait. How were they able to become dependent upon it? If the resource is in as short of supply as indicated, then it wouldn't exactly be the lifeblood of an economy, as it wouldn't have a chance to be widely used.

Shouldn't you include E too, just to cover your back? You wouldn't want to look too passive; shows weakness, doncherknow.

Money doesn't talk, it swears. I wouldn't bother with military solutions - surely there are some oil magnates in country A who value cold, hard cash over nationalism.

Msah2k, if my country's economy was dependent on a product (say oil)that I knew was gonna run out I would make my economy able to survive that product running out eventually. To not do so is insane. But if I did need oil I'd buy it from country C who gets it from country F who gets it from Q who slant drills into country A.

BUt wouldn't that require some thought before hand? Don't they have a test or something, that if you show ability for critical thought or analysis, you are unable to run for office.
