Well then let's just rely on 'classical surgery.' So what if it had about a 5% survival rate? At least it'll be 'real surgery.'
You'd have better odds than that if I removed your appendix with a spoon.

DRFSeven - no I haven't. It doesn't matter now anyway, once in 6 months I can definitely live with. Would be even less frequent if I wouldn't have days with sleeping less than 2 hours per day. As long as I stay away from caffeine and few other no-nos and get enough sleep, no migraine.

If it happens and if I have meetings or a lecture I just drag myself to Univ. Health Service for a shot for nausea/vomitting, put on sun glasses (light bothers me when I have migraine) and keep on working. Based on years of experience, most pain killers only dull the pain and next day I'll have slight headache and feel generaly lousy. So I rather put up with the pain all at once, and when I wake up next morning I feel great. In any case, thanks for the advice.

Actually what I find most bothersome is not migraine itself but visual auras before it starts, as well as feeling very confused and disoriented. Is there any cure for that part?

Cool

The point is kal.... disciplines change. What Bree's talking about may not be 'classical homeopathy' but it still falls under the modern heading. Hell modern evolutionary theory isn't all that much like classical Darwinism either....

I very often used to trick my little siblings with fairy tales and superstition. They were simple and designed only to get them to think about why these stories were mistaken. This proved very effective at immunizing them against nonsense.

This is, however, not homeopathy anymore than immunization is, however much proponents of the quackery would love to believe that it is the dilution rather than the weakened bacteria that allow us to develop antibodies for the diseases.

alek0,

you should talk with Livius about the cervical/endo./etc. problems, since she seems to be very knowledgeable on that area, and on treatments, prognoses and diets.

On the migraines, if they become a real ongoing problem, then eventually you need a specific anti-migraine agent; there's supposed to be a new one out that doesn't have the side-effects of the older ones, but I always forget the name, though I can find out later.

This has to be one of the most ironic statements in this thread.... since they're right.

What wiped out smallpox? Oh, that's right.... giving people small doses of it so that they'd build up a resistance to the virus.

What would have happened if they'd been given the virus at full strength? Oh, that's right.... they'd have died.

pshhhhhhhhft.

*waves his hand at you*

The discussion that Gurdur links to is in the Freethinker's Lounge, which has restricted admission.
