I'm not to bothered by profanity myself, but I know some gets offended by it so I try not to cause them to be uncomfortable. "hitting" someone with words, as benign as they may be, is not an idea I endorse, neither hitting with actions or thoughts. I want people to be happy, if a correction or moderation of my language is needed, fine, it is but a small price to pay for happiness amongst your discussion partners. If I am at ease and know that teh person(s) I am with don't mind profanity, then I will it use for effect, not just because I can. Words can be very powerful, th eorders that HItler spoke, carried quite a punch, the words of Buddha carries some heavy duty goodness , the words of Jesus(if he xisted) carries a lot of heat. It even says in the bible: "in the beginning there was the word, and teh word was with God, and teh word was God" Maybe words have more punch than imagined? It could be though that it was teh priests attempt to succumb the people by claiming that they, as priests, spoke the will of God, and so could slavebind those willing to listen...and perhaps even make them kill in the name of God...Crusades anyone? I don't know, it is all theory DD - Love Spliff |

Profanity doesn't bother me a fucking bit. Personally, if in this day and age your offended by profanity to a deep extent, you need to lighten up. Profanity is something that will only "hurt" you if you let it. If someone says "fuck you nigger" then you are going to get offended, but not because "fuck" and "nigger" are used. You get offended by the ignorance of the person saying it to you.
Also, any gay person who thinks that the use of the word "fag" used at a person is homophobic is full of themselves. If you go up to a person who you know is gay and say "faggot!", thats different, but saying things like, "man this test is gay", or "what a fag" does not mean anything hateful towards homosexuals. |

If I were to enjoy a wonderful glass of my favorite wine and exclaimed " this is so gay" I am expressing something positive. However if I point to a pile of manure and exclaim " this is so gay"...obviously I am connecting gay folks to the displeasure the pile of manure brings up to mind. I hope I made the nuance clear. |
