this is frustrating. I was zipping past your huge post, Peter, and I saw the phrase "I used to think that hung on a tree was a eupehmism for cricifiction." I couldn't find the phrase when went I went back. So I don't know your reasons for doubting that. But it is. All scholars think so> I think the only ones who doubt that are JW's. find me a shcolar who doubts it. Ray Brown doesnt' doubt it.

Jo also says he was a miracle worker
All mythicists dimsiss the longer reference to Jesus so I did not bring up Jo. You are correct though. The reconstructed TF does have Jesus as a miracle worker. All four evangelists and their redactional summaries, Q, L, M and other sources of the evangelists, the miracle list and Josephus to boot!

We do know that Paul probably thought Jesus apparently rose from the dead (in some sort of spiritual body). Plus I believe he mentions an instance or two where miracles were performed by those contemporary with himself? Given the high number and widespread tradition of Jesus miracle working, we should not expect Paul to need to point out the miracle working of Jesus to his Christian audiences and Paul does not say Jesus was not a miracle worker. Suddenly that Pauline silence looks tenuous and awfully small

This one is a gimme.

That's not a definition, in general, as to what is required to say that a story with differences is an alternate version. For example, among the things the synoptics say Jesus did, they say that he had a temple cleansing at the end of his ministry, shortly before being crucified. The Gospel of John says that the temple tantrum happened at the beginning of his public life, with two years or more before he was executed. Is that an important difference? You seem to be committed to saying that it is not. But you haven't stated in general what would make a difference important.

best,
Peter Kirby
