Default Wal-Mart expands anti-discrimination policies to cover gays

Story here.

Did hell just freeze over, is it really April 1 or did I wake up in a parallel universe where everyone is sane?

THOUGHTfully Yours,
Clark

I applaud Wal-Mart for recognizing that gays have as much right to minimum wage and unpaid overtime as everyone else.

Thumbs up

I think we're at the cusp here. The pro-gay momentum will soon push us over the edge.

I'm hoping that anti-gay sentiment will be so despised soon that presidential elections could be lost over it.

We've got to force Bush to take a solid stand on the issue of homosexuality. Either he moves forward with the rest of us and pisses off the religious right voters or he stays behind with them and pisses off everyone else.

Wasn't Walmart just added to some conservative 'christian merchants' coalition?

Wonder what this will do to that....

According to the NYTimes, a gay-rights organization bought enough shares of walmart to get a seat at the table. From there they kept bring this motion up, until finally everyone else agreed just to stop hearing about it.

Ain't capitalism great!

Quote:
The decision was first disclosed today by a Seattle gay rights foundation that had invested in Wal-Mart and then lobbied the company for two years to change its policy. The group, Pride Foundation, which along with several investment management firms holding stock in Wal-Mart had met as shareholders with company officials to discuss the policy, received a letter last week from Wal-Mart outlining the new employee protections. Wal-Mart officials confirmed the policy change today.

I bet one of the big shots at Wal-Mart is gonna come out of the closet now, or maybe a few?

Nice to see that they are trying to be more "equal". I hope they try to clean up their stores a little more now. Everything always seems to be out of place in their stores.

Other great news regarding Wal-Mart this week was a loss to unionization. A court in Arkansas ruled that union organizer were not trespassing when they approached employees about unionizing.

I bet ol' Sam Walton is spinning in his grave.

Oh god, we had to watch a movie, durring my orientation... IF A UNION MEMBER APPROACHES YOU, AVOID EYE CONTACT AND BACK AWAY SLOWLY. It was hillarious.

And I think Walmart is pretty conservative... they tend to play gospel music! Seriously, its weird. But nice people work there, so I'm not complaining.
