I've followed this thread for a bit. It seems the outrage is the same presumptious Christianing that you get with questions like: "What is your Communion name?" and "What church do you attend?"
I'd love to say with a straight face "Why, my communion name is 'Darwin,' after Saint Darwin of the Beagles, and I attend the Church of the Subgenius." Bob |

Kalpana Chawla was, at least according to this article, a Hindu and a "fourth-generation" vegetarian; she chose vegetarian food for herself on her Shuttle missions.
And the Seedling did not even bother to wish her a happy reincarnation. But I wonder how he would have related to the beliefs of a secular Jew (Ilan Ramon) or a Unitarian (Laurel Clark). If he is capable of doing so at all. |

According to this article, Laurel Clark had attended a Unitarian church in her teens, and its minister had presided over her wedding. So she may qualify as a non-practicing Unitarian.
Also, according to this biography of Ilan Ramon, he was a secular Jew, but he had taken along Kosher food, and he had consulted with some Rabbis about how to observe the Jewish Sabbath in outer space. Which makes me wonder -- is every "seventh day" every seventh period of wakefulness or every seventh orbit? |

Apparently, she was still a Hindu. And, semantics aside, she was born in India. |
