Default While you were out: Lesbian Couple?

I was watching While you were out yesterday on TLC. Actually, I missed about half of it, but I swear that the coulpe was gay. Did anyone see it? I was so surprised about it, because I never thought TLC would touch a gay couple for any ofit's programming, like While you Were Out, Trading Spaces or, especially, a Wedding Story. Kudos to them if they do. That's pretty groundbreaking, I think. We have a few sitcoms with major gay characters, but to show "real life gay people!" on TV living normal lives, would, I think, send the fundamentalists into hysterics!

It was a gay couple. It's not the first they've had on While You Were Out. They had another lesbian couple earlier this season. Trading Spaces has had at least one lesbian couple as well (they were the recipients of Hildi's "Straw Room" if memory serves). On the fan websites form WYWO there was a minimum amount of backlash from the inclusion of gay homeowners but surprisingly there wasn't very much.

Well, to tell the truth, it first struck me as odd that it required a thread about it... Kind of like "guess the celebrity orientation" when a) it's none of your business and b) who gives a shit?

But if this actually is as groundbreaking as deserving an entire thread on it, then kudos to american TV I suppose.

EXACTLY my point. It's such a shame that I was even surprised by it. I guess I am glad I underestimated TLC's progressiveness.

And rarely has a more blatant example of anti-gay persecution appeared on US TV. I wouldn't wish a Straw Room on my worst enemy!

Well, it's hardly groundbreaking, but it can be entertaining to watch the hoops they jump through not to explicitly (or even implicitly, really) say that the couple is gay. My favorite is the WYWO with the rodeo woman. You can see one of the crew (I think it was the carpenter) roll his eyes everytime they use the word "roommate."

Ah, to live in a culture descended from the Puritans.

With a title like that, shouldn't you expect gay couples, or am i the only one who noticed?
