Well, the problem at least in part is that an attempt to align science and the bible, and which presumes the bible to be authorotative, makes an assumption invalid for scientific investigation.

The problem? All that discussion about acquired characteristics not usually being inheritable (with an interesting review of the research that showed Lamarck's theories false), so if Adam and Eve were made immortal, and later ate a poisonous apple from the tree of life that caused them to lose their immortal characteristics, but still -- their children should have inherited immortality, just like rats who have their tails cut off produced baby rats with tails.

I didn't actually read long or carefully enough to find out how that dilemma got resolved. But to postulate that only Adam suffered a poisonous attack on his genetic material from eating of the Tree of Life, while Eve retained the characteristic for immortality, so that it was finally expressed when a remote descendant of Eve managed to reproduce without tainted sperm from Adam's descendants, thus producing Jesus and a very clever inversion of the punishment meted out to Eve for eating that apple - pure comic genius!
