You can say that about any movie with a cult (or mainstream)following. I don't think either The Matrix or Lord of the Rings or Spiderman are nearly as good as everyone else thinks they are. But bottom line, there is no objective criteria that would allow us to determine who is right and who is wrong.

To each his own. I stopped watching all of the Star Trek series altogether after getting hooked on Stargate. The only others I watched were Jeremiah on Showtime, and Andromeda.
I think Jack O'Neill is the best tv military commander ever, in any military-based program, scifi or otherwise.

I agree that Stargate SG1 is great sci-fi and O'Neill is an excellent character but most of the characters in the series are great.

However the Stargate movie that spawned the series was terrible. The characters were all cliched and unlikable and the plot was pretty much nonexistent. Its amazing that something with so much potential could be so utterly dull.

You know the thing that sucks most about Star Wars? The f***ing stupid pseudo-religion! I am continually amazed at the number of otherwise intelligent people who describe their religion as "sort of like Star Wars", "like there's this great force, man, and its got a light and a dark side .. blah blah blah". It makes me want to vomit!

On the other hand I watched the original movie on TV with my kids the other day and they LOVED it. (they're both under eight years old). So I guess it's not ALL bad.

Dibble.

So zen-buddism makes you want to vomit? From what I understand, that's basically what the mystic part of star wars is based on.

Yep. Here's a picture of me (in drag) puting Zen Buddism in the rubbish bin.
