I've been convicted -- please don't shoot me, I'll never do it again, I've learned my lesson, I haven't had a valid drivers license since late 2000, and public transit in this suburb of Wilmington blows, so I am stuck working shit jobs within walking distance!!!
I'm quite glad that you've learned your lesson. However, I find it utterly unbelievable that drunk driving is something people have to experience to learn how wrong it is. People makes mistakes such as locking keys in their car. Drunk driving isn't a mistake. Its illegitmate decision making. I mean just how much anti-drinking and driving media do you need to understand that it kills innocent people?!

Is there some sort of death plateau that needs to be arrived at before kids learn that drinking and driving is the second dumbest thing you can possibly do?

I don't think anyone here's actually claimed that admittedly unbelievable position.

But note that there's an effective program put on by some police depts. to teach people, including young people (old enough to legally drink) the effects of alcohol on driving skills. They take people to a cone course in a parking lot, let them drink one or two drinks, and drive the course before and after the drinks.

How about this? I hope that every person that has driven drunk, sees their family get into an alcohol related accident.
That's a really sick statement, Jimmy. Really sick.

As I said on another thread here @ EyeEye concurrent w/ this, on the same subject, anyone convicted of driving drunk shd be shot dead >>> get them off the road.
Jesus fucking Christ, I'm practically choking here on the self-righteousness.

Apparently neither of you have ever done anything wrong. Oh wait, that can't be it - it must be that YOUR mistakes in life have all been no big deal.

I support tough sentencing for DUI and MUCH tougher sentencing than current guidelines for vehicular manslaughter while DUI. Why go straight for the "shot dead" Abe? Wouldn't life in prison be a better punishment (hey, after death that's it... not much suffering there).

I'm sorry if you are so offended. But no, I can't recall any mistake I've made that would potentially cost the life of someone else. Sure, I've made mistakes, but as I said before, driving drunk isn't a mistake.

As for my hope, its what any person who is driving drunk is doing. They are putting the lives of other people in danger. Would it not be better, if it were their own family they endangered? Perhaps then, they'd think twice!

I fail to see how wishing harm to innocent people based on the actions of the relatives is anything but twisted.

I think you're ignoring the common usage of the word.... additionally,

mistake

\Mis*take"\, n. 1. An apprehending wrongly; a misconception; a misunderstanding; a fault in opinion or judgment; an unintentional error of conduct.

I think driving drunk would qualify as a fault in judgement.

Do you drive? If so, are you claiming you've never run a red light or stop sign, tailgated, exceeded the speed limit, or temporarily lost your concentration and swerved into the other lane?
